  1. A cud is a small blob of metal which shouldnt be there (quite common on modern 20p's) A serif is a stroke or line added to the end of a letter or number .ie on an 1864 penny the horizontal bar ends with a serif (line rising upwards ) or a vertical bar or serifs (cross crosslet type ) . the red marks are serifs
  2. be careful when buying Henry VIII hammered ,there is lots of fake/ reproductions out there .If like me ,you have a basic knowledge ,most of them are easy to spot , but if you are a complete novice ,then you can be easily caught out . If you see anything on ebay ,dealers website etc .that takes your fancy , stick a pic up of it on here (before you buy )and one of the more knowledgeable members will keep you right .

  9. It is blue crown boxes (not full proof set boxes ) I have been talking about . will need to go on the hunt and see if I can track down a pic of one .
  10. I have came across a couple of blue crown boxes too ,but never in hand ,always through pictures .My only concern with them is that the light blue colour may be from green boxes that have faded in sunlight (there seems to be a few different shades of green out there).pics never show the inside of the box ,where the original colour would be intact . also found this one where the colour has faded away to white https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FESTIVAL-OF-BRITAIN-PROOF-CROWN-COIN-1951-WITH-ORIGINAL-BOX-AND-COA-ANOTHER/382279211150?hash=item59019dd88e:g:90MAAOSweW5VdJTS
  11. heres a blue proof set box http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1951-Festival-of-Britain-Boxed-Official-ex-Proof-Farthing-to-Crown-10-Coin-Set/292344018858?hash=item44110fb7aa:g:PZMAAOSwCkZZQQvz
  12. I have both types of both colours .slide out seems to be the most common type of both colours , but the 2 blue ones I have seen were both lids.
  13. I have seen 2 blue ones ,but have never managed to get my hands on one .nearly bought one a good few years ago ,but held off because the box was a bit of a state (regret it now ,cos it was only a couple of quid) .the green and burgundy boxes have 2 types ,one has a lid type box and also a slide on cover type. There is also 2 different coa's .I am sure I have seen a proof set in a blue box too (might have imagined it though )
