  1. I have been having a think about the concentric circles and unless there are some marks on the edge that might indicate that it was held in a vice or chuck so that the circles could be accidentally or intentionally cut into the metal for some reason, then its possible that they were put there due to the coin being squashed between something with these marks on which was transferred onto the coin through pressure. It could be that the coin just happened to be the right thickness to be used as a spacer for something that had a little bit of weight on it. Anyway just a guess on my part.
  2. Are there any marks on the edge that might indicate that it had been gripped by something?
  3. Can you PM me with a price Pete.
  4. Aways worth a look, especially if rewarded with a bargain.
  5. 15 quid, that a good price, I have been looking at one for £30 and its not as good as your one.
  6. If the price is right its worth a look, You can always send it back.
  7. Just found this http://www.ncscoin.com/news/enews/2010/April/article1.asp
  8. Would prefer not to have them but a few spots would be acceptable. For some of my coins, carbon would be the least of their problems
  9. So are they fakes? Although for the life of me I cannot understand why someone would go to the trouble.
  10. Have you looked at the tear with a magnifier? Can you see if the edges are lifting away from the coin? I wonder if they are plated in someway
  11. Are they chocolates wrapped in foil?
  12. Doesn't appear to be working. Where are you linking it from?
  13. Now that is a beautiful coin. Would like one of those.

So will you be selling it shortly I have the double exergue but a single would look lovely alongside it.
  16. Cannot really see it.
  17. Don't clean them, leave them as they are. it may reduce their value.
  18. For the metal to flow, would that not mean that it had a space to flow into? The steel of the die being considerable harder than the bronze of the coin would trap the stamping in the shape of the die. For the metal to flow and keep its form albeit in a wavy appearance then the pressure of the metal when being stamped would need to be stronger than the hardened steel, pushing the die into a new shape. is that possible? Also the waves above the exergue look to me like they have not distorted, which they probably would do if the exergue flowed. The wavy exergue looks bright, I do not know if this is the lighting when being photographed or a newly cut die being made to fit slightly thicker numbers?
  19. Looks like the ends of the 9,6 & 3 on the wavy exergue are rounded. The straighter version are pointed.
  20. Come on, really?
  21. Thank you guys for getting back to me on this. Looks like we have quite a few places to start looking at
  22. Thank you David, that's much appreciated
