  1. Hi Here is a medal with a connected rosette that I bought on eBay a few weeks ago. Weighs 34gms, diameter 44mm, thickness 5mm. Not silver. Not named. My grandfather was born and grew up in Rhymney, South Wales, which when he was young was a busy coal mining village. It was minted by J.W. BENSON London, so the medal could be 100 to 150 years old. ??? I have not been able to find a similar medal. All I can find is that this type of medal could be given following an act of bravery or good deed by for example a friendly society. I am interested in the social history of the area so can anyone add anything? Many thanks Alan
  2. Yes I knew what I had before this post. I bought the coin at a provincial auction several years ago. It was advertised as an obverse I and I agreed. The lot contained the halfpenny only and did not come with a set. I was pleased to be the successful bidder. What are the thoughts on how these coins have come about? Are they from broken up VIP sets?
  3. This is my example (hopefully!). Apologies for the photo of the obverse. Must have taken over twenty photos and the majority came out without the top of Elizabeth’s nose.
  4. A happy ending! with more distinguishing features to note. Excellent.
  5. Hi Eric The April 2003 contains ‘A Collection of Victorian Young Head and Gothic Bust Milled Silver Coinage’ In this are two 1838 shillings. MS4562 and MS4563, respectively light tone UNC (£250) and light scratch on neck, toned a pleasing EF (£125). In the write up both state ‘w.w. raised on truncation’. Hope this helps Alan
  6. It looks like it is not available for Android. Alan
  7. Open IrfanView, should have black screen. Drag picture onto screen Click on ‘File’ in top left bar In the dropdown menu, click ‘Save as…’ Two boxes appear In box ‘left’ I change File name, so as not to replace the original. Indicate where to save file in ‘Recent folders’ dropdown menu In box ‘right’ tick ‘Set file size’ Put in 499 Press save in left box Mine turned out as 490KB file size Hope this works for you Alan (Using Windows 11)
  8. There was not a March 2003. I have February and April Alan
  9. Thanks Steve and Jerry IrfanView looks a excellent program, I have just downloaded the 64-Bit and it works fine. Cuts file size to 499KB very easily. If anyone is interested this is a good review of its features. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJIBaz1FTkE Alan
  10. Hi Blake Thanks for your reply, yes that does work. I normally send pictures as an attatchment to the email so I don't get that option. I will in future use that method. Many thanks Alan
