  1. Good for you Pete. Was she helpful? I see there are now 20 bids.
  2. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1847-WW-SOLID-SILVER-PLAIN-EDGE-VICTORIA-GOTHIC-CROWN-MY-GRADE-E-F/123750447136?hash=item1cd019f820:g:Jw4AAOSw9A5criZ1
  3. In his reply to me mycopau, who sold it to her, honestly describing it as a modern restrike, for £1 last December, said this: Looks as if she has had a second attempt at artificial ageing- I suspect through one of her eBay associated sellers. Maybe a bit if shill bidding going on?
  4. It's now up to £650 with seven bids.
  5. Good work chaps. I see the pound coin which started out as a BIN with a price tag of one million is now at £6.50 with ten hours to go. Time to grab yourself the bargain of the century…. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ONE-OF-A-KIND-MAJOR-ROYAL-MINT-DIE-SHARD-STRIKE-ERROR-2017-12-SIDED-1-COIN/123744765615
  6. Reported, again. I suggest as many as possible here do so again too.
  7. An interesting reply from mycopau: I did indeed sell this to the young lady in question - I also pointed out the error of her ways only to be fed with all manor of tall tails! I also informed EBay of the fraudulent listing though as per eBay norm - no action. Looks as if she has had a second attempt at artificial ageing- I suspect through one of her eBay associated sellers. More than happy to publish her details to PD members forum.
  8. Definitely the same repro artificially aged. Surely attempting to sell these described as genuine is a criminal offence?
  9. Five minutes ago I sent a message to mycopau alerting them to the marlybob1 listing. Should I receive a reply I'll share it here. I see the one she offered in February went for two and a half grand. There should be a law etc. etc….
  10. Still trying to flog it. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ONE-OF-A-KIND-MAJOR-ROYAL-MINT-DIE-SHARD-STRIKE-ERROR-2017-12-SIDED-1-COIN/123734246210?hash=item1ccf22c342:g:5rwAAOSwcXpb3XnQ
  11. Absolutely.
  12. Nice Chris. Could those incuse (?) marks to the lower right of the eagle also be chop/test marks? Do you know which of the Ptolemys yours is? If I remember correctly there were ten plus Cleo. You can ID using the monogram in the field to the left of the eagle.
  13. I know, I remember you saying so.
  14. I've had this for at least 25 years and only this evening bothered to get it out and take a proper look ('Ooh Matron'). I've been Googling for information on ancient merchant's test chop marks but haven't come up with all that much so far. There's plenty to be had on 18th and 19th century silver coins with Chinese chop marks and I see also, who knew, some collectors clubs. I have found a few mentions of ancient test marks on tetradrachms but the information is scant to say the least. Should anyone here know about these I'd be grateful if you'd take a few minutes to share. Ta.
  15. There's a very decent collection at the Lady Lever in Port Sunlight too.
  16. PS: Actually, looking at it again, your coin may be a decent contemporary counterfeit. There are a several described as 'fish lips' portrait, and yours possibly fits the bill (or should that be fits the lips). Any opinions regarding this are welcomed.
  17. Re. 3 over 7: Not sure to be honest. Even though worn, your coin shows evidence of having been struck from very tired dies. Might it be yet another case of chipping/cud?* Look at how obvious the overstrike is on Colin Cooke's coin, both digits are clear. Note also the horizontal bar of the 7 is in line with that of the 3. On your coin what may be an underlying horizontal bar is lower, and sticking out slightly on the right. *(Chipping Cud, isn't that one of those places where the entitled hold their kitchen suppers? )
  18. There's something there with the 3, but the reverse die doesn't match Cooke's 364. 364: first leg of the second N points to the wrist. End of spear points to the one. There is a space between the two sevens, etc.
  19. Absolutely Rob. Look at the obverse Ts on this 1700. And what's that under the IV, an O?
  20. Returning to the original topic: These are described as I over A or I over inverted V, but they're neither of these are they? That limb, showing to the right of the I, isn't a match for either. Here's a 1700 I have which shows the same limb to the right of the T and, while we're at it, what's that going on to the left of the T? Yes, I know it's a horrible specimen, but it's the only one I've seen apart from Nicholson's (144), and mine is a shade better than that one. Same die. Note the extra blob above the olive branch.
  21. If your Nicholson MVRIA (I remember seeing the sale prices before they were taken down) is offered at a sensible price I may be interested.
  22. Having Peck's Monatgu 03 half penny affords me a little warm glow inside….
  23. I think I remember seeing one sold though DNW some years ago which was around NEF. Surely the best extant?
  24. Nicholson 053. Yes. Yours, mine, the Nicholson, all the same die. Extremely rare but, as you say, not only two as seen by Peck when compiling. As is the way with these things, new examples appear over time. Check out past DNW sales.
