  1. Now £255, with eight days still to run. People are mental.
  2. That certainly does look to be a likely candidate. The size would probably match too.
  3. I'm loving this. It's what my end of the hobby is all about. I thought the CCF post worth sharing here and, as usual, Rob kicks off with a spot on observation. The word 'unique' is so often used incorrectly but if a coin is an only known (or, to date, noticed) surviving example of a die does 'unique' apply?
  4. Yes, I've just read that over on the other forum. A most unusual little coin.
  5. Unusual. https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=385496
  6. Beautiful.
  7. Dear god, was that really worth the effort? I haven't a calendar in front of me but doesn't British Pedant Day fall in Julember? Switch it off and come down now Timmy, dinner's ready.
  8. Or possibly thread. Interchangeable I suppose. They're certainly the best chuckle Ebay have offered me today.

  11. I agree. The logical explanation is 1695, short run, first issue. Your photographic evidence nails the date.
  12. Should anyone else wish to read Dave's article, here it is.
  13. 50 years later, apt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0GUbAImHuw
  14. And still using the photo... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1926-HALF-Penny-George-V-Uncirculated-NGC-MS-63-RB-Extremely-Rare-F-195/333741885945?hash=item4db49109f9:g:F-4AAOSwUKRfU67~
  15. His music featured heavily in the soundtrack to my childhood. Wine up y' waist….
  16. Not that I can see. I did find this which may be of interest: https://www.mhti.org/uploads/2/3/6/6/23664026/the_battle_of_the_tokens_1789-99._the_hibernian_mining_company_v._the_associated_irish_mine_company.pdf
  17. Hi Paddy. From Seaby's British Tokens and Their Values (my 1970 edition):
  18. Yes Diaconis, if ever proof were needed of TPG being such a daft concept these listings surely serve. 175 quid + delivery for a 1966 half crown because, er, it's the fourth best example which has passed across some bloke's desk? It's the poor saps led to believe they're investing in something which will retain, or even accrue, value I feel for. In a drawer to my left there's one of those old red card bank rolls containing 50 mint 1967 half pennies. I can't be bothered having them slabbed myself but if anyone here would want to do it the entire roll is yours for a thousand pounds. No? Oh, all right then, you've a lucky face, two thousand pounds. 5p? Come on, you're killing me here. 10p? No, no, NO! I can't be pushed any further, you're stealing the food from my children's mouths. 11p? Oh, alright, I know I'll regret it tomorrow, three thousand pounds, but that's my last offer. Final. No more. 12p? Oh, you people, call yourselves coin collectors? Go back to your Franklin Mint plates, and cabbage patch dolls, you don't know what you're talking about….
  19. Spoilt for choice. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/mother_natures_showroom/m.html?item=183994232489&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562
  20. Boom Boom.
  21. Though I see now the header has been altered to include the word 'half', and the reverse photo swapped for one of a worn 1926 half penny, which I assume is the actual 'extremely rare' coin found lying around the house.
