  1. No-one yet has answered my question as to how PGCS managed to produce such fantastic photos.......
  2. Really nice coin and that's how photos of my own F4 come out - wonder how PCGS make the coin look so perfect ????????
  3. Thanks, Dave - I got that OK.
  4. That video never loaded for me.
  5. OK - what does a sovereign weigh ? And are they a (pretty) standard weight ?
  6. How much relevance can we give to a quoted weight of a coin ? I have a cheap Chinese electronic scales which gives a very different reading to a coin that I bought with a quoted weight. I cannot believe that these scales are particularly accurate, especially when they give readings to 2 decimal places of grams. Freeman weighed most of his coins I believe but using what technology ? And if coins weigh differently on every cheap scales, is there any point to weighing them ?
  7. James, are you happy to describe how you do this ? I have one or two coins that would benefit from such treatment. Cheers, Richard
  8. The camera never lies ?????????????????
  9. Spink photos really don't do justice:
  10. It looks very like the one sold at Spinks in June this year - lot 1513. Some spots in the same place.
  11. Bog standard F10 (2+D) although the specifics say N over Z. The bidding history looks very suspicious.
  12. Take a look at this - something very fishy going on............. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-1860-One-Penny-Victoria-Coin-Extremely-High-Grade-a-UNC-low-start-price-/142160133177?hash=item2119677c39:g:t8wAAOSwMVdYD0eT
  13. Thanks for the pics Paddy.
  14. Can someone post photos of the 2 obverses please.
  15. I thought that Manx coins didn't have a tail ?
  16. Gary Schindler kindly sent me a copy - free - what a nice man !
  17. Photo please Gary, at your convenience. Thanks, Richard
  18. These numbers appeared In the original 1970 edition; F75 was described as 7+H with H below date and having a grained edge. The other 3 are also described as having a grained edge. Page 19 of the 1985 edition explains that some coins were found to have had their grained edges applied after leaving the Mint, but doesn't refer explicitly to these Freeman numbers although it mentions that the coins are omitted from the later edition.
  19. Just seen the scratch that Matt posted - agree with him.
  20. I'm attaching the photo that I have (hope the owner doesn't mind) and you'll see that the border beads are different from the black and white pictured coin, being much more oval in shape.
  21. That 1954 penny in the picture looks much brighter than the one I have a photo of - maybe it's not unique after all ?
  22. Are the Freeman sale pictures available ?
  23. Yes, the folds of Britannia's dress often appear near Victoria's neck, producing the effect known as "crow's foot", and is seen on many bun pennies as Mike says.
  24. Oh dear, time for a lie down I think. Why did I think you were discussing 1946 pennies ? Please ignore all future posts from me, I'm clearly going downhill fast.
  25. Are we talking at cross purposes here ? Laurie Bamford only collected Victorian pennies. I've been talking about 1946 ONE' pennies.
