  1. Does it have a reeded edge ? I don't know enough about these to say either way. You could always try slabbing it to find out for sure.... cheers Garrett.
  2. I would guess those coins would be from a well known collection ?
  3. Welcome Kev ! You will finds lots of interesting threads here. don't forget to stop and eat once in a while.... cheers Garrett.
  4. I'd have that coin. Sorry. Charlie 2 didn't gash the neck on this one because he had a hundred of them, and missed the neck on this one, he was so furious. All bullshit aside, I'd have that coin *. It's just the price we're hagglin' over. cheers Garrett. * provided it's genuine.
  5. Peck, 2GB back in the 80's sounds very impressive !!
  6. missed this thread earlier. That is a great find ! Congratulations !!
  7. Could ER stand for Elizabeth Regina ? i.e. Queen Elizabeth (1st).
  8. I'm a bit late but happy New Year Peter and everyone from me as well !
  9. Very interesting ! My *guess* is double-struck '5'. Only a guess, thanks for showing us. cheers Garrett.
  10. Welcome Kiva. It's a pity the coin wasn't in better condition.
  11. hhhmmmmm interesting. Cant say I'm an expert in grading and am sitting here with the "Grading British Coins" book on my iPhone. I can't see enough wear on the lions nose, stones below the crown, or the kings ear to mark it below EF..... Just my opinion though.....
  12. Wow you have the book already that was quick !
  13. Tokens can have quite attractive designs and a lot of them offer an insight into life at the time. If you look through the "Show us your copper and bronze" thread you will see many beautiful examples.
  14. Hi Scott Thanks very much for your great contributions to this forum. your post are very much appreciated by me, and I'm sure by others. I have just ordered a copy of the peck book from Rob to be sent to you (took me friggin ages to find Rob's site !!, it's rpcoins, right ???). Hope you enjoy. Thanks again for the contributions. Rob, please let me know if my order was lacking any information. cheers Garrett.
  15. Goodness how beautiful ! Is there a half-farthing included in the set ?
  16. Welcome Alex ! Yes will be interesting to see a pic. No numbers, date, or monarch ? Big guess but may not be a coin...
  17. Absolutely. Those are the coins I look at again and again. I didn't buy anything this time but have my eye on a couple of nice coins when budget permits. cheers Garrett.
  18. Yes welcome and we always like to see pictures of coins !
  19. I have a few halfpenny's here and there. Similar to Accumulator, my first favourite coin was a beautiful 1899 half-penny (that I still have) from when I was a lad. It is probably only VF (with eye appeal) but a magnificent specimen to a small boy accustomed to washers. cheers Garrett.
  20. Well done Peter, all profit from here on for you. They are handy especially for a dark room. Most of the dealers have lamps with adjustable necks but it's a bit of a pain to have to move around, especially when others are at the table too.....
  21. Absolutely Paulus ! 28 pounds of sugar. What the hell was he going to do with that ? Resell ? Make some home brew ? :/
  22. Looks like there is another coin fair next weekend at the Colossus club in West End. Take a loupe with it's own light as it seemed a dark room last time I was there. cheers Garrett.
  23. Welcome Russ ! I know you will enjoy your time here. I like shillings too. cheers Garrett.
