  1. Yey, that works even better ... Grammatically correct too, Peck take note ...
  2. I only wear a skirt during hunting season Peter, the thong on the other hand does'nt half chalf though Debbie, yes, who is the other if there were 2 before the latest newbie?? does'nt half chalf Dave, you're a poet and you don't even realise!!
  3. Welcome to the forum Nicky. I would venture to suggest that you've increased the female population by 100% (unless there's something strange going on), but then I'd be accused of being to maths what Peckris is to english Viccy Silver isn't a female then? Viccy Silver i think refers to Victoria silver and probably the area of collecting. Welcome to the Forum weebo Yes, I was only joking, who is the other one then if there is one? Pureangel is female but doesn't post ...

  5. Welcome along Nicky! A little tip you might like is to go to a bank or Post Office and exchange a fiver (or whatever) for 50 pence coins, that way you might fill some gaps or upgrade existing examples at just 50p a pop! And of course spend/swap/or re-exchange the boring ones you have already! Have fun!
  6. I'd go with EF on that, but as a maximum. There seems to be a few small scratches on the reverse? Thanks Peck, yes there are, but not visible except under magnification ... so near EF about right then?
  7. Hoping the assembled masses don't mind, to be honest this is one of the most valuable sides to this great forum for me - the last requests prompted some lively debate so hopefully you're up for another! This one is owned by a collector friend of mine who is up for selling and I want to offer him a fair price, so opinions as to grade again if you could be so kind! I am thinking NEF but my judgement might be 'coloured'!
  8. A bit of shill bidding going on here anyone? Possibly, but he's going to have to relist it because i won it. Just waiting on him emailing me for payment then i'll let him know (he already does) that its pewter, but wondering if HE will tell me this first as a good ebay seller _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Could'nt wait, so i've emailed him Hello, been waiting for you to contact me about this coin. Was actually wanting to see if you were an honest seller or not, and it seems not. Reason being is that i know you had several emails during this auction telling you that this coin was made of pewter, yet you've failed to tell me this so far and you also failed to update your auction stating this, and that can only be for one reason, you wanted it sold as original. There is a very good British coin forum which i'm a member of and your coin was pointed out on that forum, your wording in the auction does'nt really wash either as you've sold coins and sell a few coins and you certainly knew the date, but your WHAT IS IT quote was really quite amusing. So, what we can do is either you sell it as a pewter fake (as you know it is) and i can forget feedback, or you can try again selling as the real deal and i can leave a nice feedback. P.s the forum name is predecimal.com/forum look under free for all then under ebay laughs. Can't wait to hear how this pans out Dave, do keep us posted! I admire your vigilante style!
  9. At first glance they appeared deeper than I would've expected, and a little 'awkward'! They still 'feel' awkward for me, however, the consensus is most definitely that the coin's a goer! Are you going for it Paulus? Thanks everyone for your opinions, nicely varied! Still musing over it, I like it, it is graded by the dealer as GVF, with GVF money attached, so no bargain, but I might ... in fact knowing me I probably will! Will post bigger and hopefully better pics if and when I do!
  10. You're being too harsh I think it's a Good grade!
  11. Members' valuable opinions requested as to grade (it's a sixpence - dealer's pics): Adthanksvance
  12. A good point well made Dave, and a reminder that we mustn't put a premium on slabbed coins or drift towards the US model that seems to trust these grades without question and rely on them, it will end up putting me off collecting to be honest if that's the way we go in Europe
  13. Always amazes me that such ancient quality coins can be acquired at affordable prices, those are great Hus!
  14. A classic case of grading adjusted for type/rarity which it mustn't be, IMHO, there has to be a benchmark we can all rely on from the 'professionals'
  15. Thanks Dave, so it's the centre bit on the Rev that doesn't get as close to the shields as usual? Will post a pic of my coin tomorrow for confirmation, ESC says 'very small garter star' and I was doubting that I had it ...
  16. Please excuse this ignorant question but none of my books has a picture or explanation of this, I have a 1739 Shilling that was sold by a dealer as of this quite rare type and would like to verify, can anyone help, a pic of one perhaps? Thanks for any help!
  17. That's good fast work! Just wondered why it has 1830 on the reverse and 1840 on the obverse?
  18. Is this a bit strange? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251118724076?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648#ht_1266wt_1140
  19. You should ask the seller if it has been cleaned at all, just so we can laugh at the response! He has 'downgraded' it to the totally ambiguous 'High Grade' now, we are getting there!
  20. Indeed, Dave (Azda) correctly pointed out that the veins on the leaves could be better, but it is one of those that just looks gorjus to me, regardless that there are higher grades out there ... the mutt's nuts as Mongo would put it!
  21. Collecting is about all of it. History of the various types, who made them, how they were made, why they were made, die and punch links, errors, mules, high grades, low grades, common, rare, bullion and base metals, currency, patterns, proofs, big coins, little coins, anything you care to mention that fires the individual's imagination. So much to learn about past generations and even whole civilisations, their histories, values and beliefs. If anyone is bored with coins, I suggest they don't exercise their grey matter enough. Well said Rob, sums it up for me!
  22. Yes, the reverse has been well and truly Brillo'd. Not even EF in my book. Nowhere near EF, even without the Brillo! Nice avatar, Paulus, is that your's? It is, my suberbly toned 1902 6d! In my top 10 eye appeal coins that I luckily own, here is the Rev: I was motivated to change my avatar by our newest member 50 (per)cent silver! Back to thread...isn't that a bit of silver-peel going on too? I wish he could be struck off and I hope no-one is tempted into paying much for it, really makes me quite angry! And the coaster sized Obverse (both previously posted when I was a newbie!):

  24. You should ask the seller if it has been cleaned at all, just so we can laugh at the response! Go for it Mongo! I've already peed him off! I think we should all ask him searching questions, the scumbag!
  25. Why are you buying damaged coins? Just because they are the first thing you find? I see you are quite young and by extension new to the game. You must learn to cultivate some patience because you might have to wait months or years for the right coin to come along. they were going cheap and i wanted one because i love them so much, but everywhere i look i just cannot seem to find one that looks like it is worth the amount of money a good one is going for. but i need to get more four pences so i might have to wait to get some really good eddie vii florins How about cutting back on the fourpences (groats, or are you in to Maundy?) for a while and saving up for a quality example of your favourite coin? (sounds like a decent Edward VII florin at the moment!!!) ... you won't regret it, if you buy well it will be a constant joy to behold and own!
