UK action on Conders has been a bit depressed lately, which is great for the US buyer. I'd say £140-160 on a good day here, and probably $325 retail in the States.

Here's a few in brass, mixed dates and alphabets:

Probably Balkan, made to go in a Vasilopita or Basil cake. Only one per cake, and the recipient gets good luck for the year to come. A bit like silver 3d in a Christmas pud, it's an Orthodox tradition for, I think, New Year. You see plenty of these in brass or gilt, some of which have Greek lettering but nearly always with an impossible date. A bit like brass Spade Guineas. Gold coins are rare, but not unknown.

A friend of mine used to live downstairs from Ian Gillan's auntie. The said Gillan came down once to tell him to turn the music down... My only claim is that my wife used to teach the niece of the drummer with the Beach Boys. A girl called Marjorie Mowlam was in my year, she did quite well in politics.

I went to the same school as her, about four years earlier. The Goldsmiths were a nice family and Carole was an OK kid at the time.

There are two sections that have to be completed for US/Canada visibility. Firstly you have to list a specific postal rate for certain countries ( from memory: US, Canada, Australia, Japan and probably a few others). Failure to do so means that your item will remain invisible. Just listing postage as: Europe £x.xx and Rest of the World £x.xx does not work. In addition there is a tick box for Visibility in US and Canada, which must be checked or, you've guessed it, your auction gets no US/Canada exposure. That box is chargeable, but it's no use ticking it if you haven't detailed specific US/Canada postage rates.

Just what I was thinking. As far as I can remember I first went to Seaby's in 1963 as my father's runner, he bought much of his stock from them. They regularly trusted this spotty teenage oik with largeish parcels of coin to take back on the tube to West London, and then return days later with grubby pound notes in exchange. Collectors in their late 50's - 60's will remember when quality coins were relatively cheap in the context of everyday living costs, even gold sovs were fairly reasonable. It seems now that a well presented coin, say VF or better, fetches disproportionately more than 40 years ago; even coins with a large well attested mintage. Five years ago I decided not to play any more. I still have my Gun Money and Thaler collections, but for fun and profit I now choose to play with tokens and medals.

That's on the upper limit for most toy money manufacturers, but Lauer did make a few pieces at that size. Not with that bust though and I can't find it in any catalogue. Slim chance that it's by Allen & Moore as not all of their pieces were marked.

Try Open Office from Apache. It's free, open source, mimics Office and is reasonably compatible with existing Office docs.

Part of the pricing problem is that Verdicare & Verdigone are classed as Restricted Articles for shipment by air. Which means that it has to to be packaged and labelled as Hazardous Goods. Ri-Arts as they are known have to fly on their own individual Air Way Bill, which means the shipper is paying full IATA rates, no discounts apply. Having said all that, I did buy some Verdigone on a visit to the US but was not totally happy with the results.
