  1. Commonly referred to as Imitation Ottoman or Belly Money. Ornamental coin with deliberately blundered date. Usually, as in this case, based on Tunisian coinage.
  2. Bronze age ring money from a dig in Croatia.
  3. Sometime in the 60s my father put some money in a safe place before we went on holiday. Flash forward 30 years and I gutted the house for refurbishment before selling. Still no safe place found. Worrying thing is that he was a coin dealer. Is it genetic?
  4. I have a very old email address which I kept open purely for the irregular petitioncrown emails. Sadly, I can close it now. Thank you Geoff and farewell.
  5. "If he's anything like me. I always mislay the bloody thing when it sells" So, so many times I've done that. The one that rankles most is when Olympic 50p mania was at its highest I had three bank bags of the "Offside Rule" which was highly sought after. All three bags sell on the same weekend for a price I'm almost ashamed to admit (OK, £137) and then I couldn't find the bloody things. Refunded everyone and then spotted the bags 4 days later at exact eye level on my roll top desk. Didn't do half that money next time out. And my wife still refers to my desk as the money skip.
  6. They're mine and, sadly I have to pop around 50 of the buggers out of their capsules and set up the lighting correctly just to record them.
  7. I had a feeling that the caps wouldn't help but I've got about 50 of these to shoot and I was being lazy.

It's very small, what's the metal?
  9. I've been advised that if you have natural light, use it. Today being sunny I shot some Bunc pound coins and they look completely shagged. Suggestions please. Nikon coolpix on macro.

Possibly Colchester halfpenny Success to the Bay Trade. Very late C18th.
  11. The script below ONE RUPEE is, I believe, Persian. Indian friends tell me that it's a very good place to check for forgery as very few Indians can write Persian accurately.
  12. Zookeeperz, here's about the best image you'll find. I still can't make my mind up on yours.
  13. Possibly the greatest depth of knowledge on Indian coins can be found on worldofcoins.eu. Most of the acknowledged experts on Indian coins are active members.
  14. It's really just a trickle down from the "Pattern Proof Crowns" put out by Coincraft, Spinks and Birmingham Mint. I get a few of those in mixed lots occasionally, put them up for peanuts and am always surprised at the result. Here's some of Mr Lobel's current offerings: https://www.coincraft.com/patina-retro-patterns
  15. OK, we probably all agree that a huge % of ebay is: 1) Sh**e 2) More sh**e, misdescribed 3) More Sh**e, knowingly misdescribed 4) Misdescribed through lack of knowlwedge 5) Misdescribed because "I Googled it and it's worf faaasands" At weekends, with a drink in my hand, I frequently put a snipe at "asking price" on 2) & 4). If I don't win, no sweat. But when I win, it keeps me in good brandy.
  16. There a quite a few varieties, not all made by Grueber. Some have advertising reverses, Remington Typewriters for one and there's also a Big Wheel variety.. Also Australian and Canadian varieties.
  17. Short answer, no. But at the start of September I spotted that a lot of my sellers fees were out of scale. Messages sent to and fro, they know that I know. Still they overcharged me for September but reassure me that it is "being looked at". This from over a month ago " ........Fee for the listings and can confirm that, it is an issue known on site which has affected some of our sellers. You need not to worry for this, we have escalated this issue to our specialised team and they are looking into this on priority basis. I'm sure that it will be resolved soon for our genuine members like you and you will get the correct invoice (or credit) for the same." Not holding my breath on this one.
  18. I have maybe another 40-50 in stock plus the 30 ish in the shop which is about six months stock. So not a route to instant riches but it ticks over.
  19. The signature is unknown to me and I think that they look pretty rough. Modernism doesn't sell well in that market. It would be interesting if you could see what is stamped in the two cartouches.
  20. They're a bread and butter line for me. When nothing else is selling, holy medals will always put a few bob in the till. Lat week was slow but I sold five. I've had to restock so much this weekend that half the items have no text, just pictures. https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/BAGERAP?section_id=18342460
  21. The Dassier medals were/are frequently copied and reissued. My favorite were by Sir Edward Thomason, in lead. I have one somewhere and will post it when found. Good basic reference: http://www.historicalartmedals.com/MEDAL%20WEB%20ENTRIES/BIOSKETCHES%20AND%20OTHER%20TEXT/SWITZERLAND/kings_and_queens_of_england.htm
  22. I was at King's in the late 60s but I imagine that you're a lot younger.
  23. Here's the thing Rob. They're not trying to find advertisers. If you have good viewing figures with lots of daily hits, youtube set up the ads and give you a %.
