  1. It does look very much like a Nuremberg jetton, but of superior quality. I'm unable to read any of the lettering clearly, but if it were Italian, then you are looking at Venice. Krauwinkel was producing this type of design as early as late C13th. This looks to be much later and so, almost certainly Nuremberg.
  2. Are you certain that it is a fleur de lys cross and not crossed keys? Any idea of the metal, because I think it might be an early sack seal, which would be lead.
  3. Also John, you would enjoy talking with forum member seuk whose interest in fakes mirrors yours.
  4. Yes, U.S. dies and hubs, suitably defaced are, are often seen for sale.
  5. Bronze A1 Leopold is currently around £14.00
  6. Your A1 was issued in both silver and bronze. Which do you have?
  7. "Trouble is, they're mostly Brentford so deeply unfashionable" Yes, but even this QPR supporter will say one good thing for the Bees. There's a pub at each corner of the ground.
  8. Not legal tender, but widely seen in circulation in British cities with large Irish populations. For some time the UK pound traded higher than the Irish Punt so Irish shops and pubs were happy to accept them at face value. I traveled a lot to Dublin on business and my pub of choice would let me run up a tab so that I generated a sum large enough to apply the exchange rate to.
  9. "I did not know that, made legally by who? " Most were made in Birmingham, but I believe that the Royal Mint were also involved.
  10. Believe it or not Gaz, you have a collectable there. I'm not into all the intricacies but many of these early fakes were produced legally in the UK using silver cladding and later electroplate.
  11. Haymarking? A new one for me. Care to expand on that please Rob.
  12. From memory I'm sure that there is a Dublin halfpenny token with Shakespeare's head obverse and Irish harp reverse, and this could be it.
  13. "Interesting, so in other words are you saying CCF as a US forum has more "pull" with eBay? " Probably. They have nearly 50,000 members, the majority of whom are American. " How do we go about reporting it to CCF is there a thread we need to post to specifically." Yes, and it can be complicated the first time you use it. https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=162 Looking back, I've reported 42 items. 29 were taken down. "Ebay should have a UK coin expert online watching the listings. It would not take much for them to spot the fakes and cut them off at source. " They used to have a fakes and counterfeits committee. Bob Gurney aka Swamperbob from CCF was one of the members. Ebay disbanded it. Probably for being too effective.
  14. I've frequently had fakes pulled from ebay.uk by reporting them to CCF.
  15. I've mentioned this before, but CCF (Coincommunityforum) have a very good track record of getting fakes taken down. See: https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=162 I'm not sure why they are so successful, probably because of their very high membership and the fact that they are U.S. based.
  16. Has anyone checked the TPG register? That reverse looks very moody to me.
  17. Impeccable taste Peck. Was actually playing this earlier today.
  18. True story. My family & loved ones (not necessarily the same people) have strict instructions that, in my final hours, they should play Pressure Drop loudly. When I don't twitch, call the undertaker. Even now as I slowly approach my 70th, I still have to dance to Mr. Hibbert. And "What's my number" also has the same effect. Edit: A cry has just come from the other room "You're alive. Turn it down if you want to stay that way!"
  19. Having just seen the Bill Bailey link, I'm compelled to share this:
  20. I've just noticed that in Item Specifics, he lists the brand as SexeMara, which links to a shop on aliexpress.
  21. Not the Hilton Hotel, but Moussaieff, Hilton. Moussaieff are very high end jewellers with boutiques in London, Switzerland and interestingly, Hong Kong. So we have someone with a Romanian name, flogging tat from Hong Kong and having a connection to a biiiiiiig jewellers. Odd.
  22. Interesting sale today. Russian buyer for delivery to Omsk. Uses a UK Paypal a/c in someone else's name. Can't get a response from the p/pal a/c holder so I reluctantly try to sort it out through p/pal customer service. India has a wealth of people speaking good, comprehensible English. The one I had must be the daughter of the call centre boss. 50 times round the same few phrases with no information being imparted. Can't help me, can't inform the account holder for security reasons? So if you live in Newport Gwent and you haven't bought an £80 jeton, have a look at your account. You may just find out that you have. In fact I've put the transaction on hold until further notice.
  23. I think that it's an Edward II jeton, so C14th.
  24. I'm fairly certain that it's an 1897 medal of Queen Victoria, her children and their spouses. Should be 19.5 mm diameter. OBVERSE: H.M. QUEEN VICTORIA AND EMPRESS OF INDIA EMPEROR FREDERICK OF GERMANY EMPRESS FREDERICK OF GERMANY ALFRED DUKE OF EDINBURGH DUCHESS OF EDINBURGH PRINCESS BEATRICE PRINCE HENRY OF BATTENBURG PRINCE LOUIS OF HESSE PRINCESS ALICE REVERSE: THEIR R.R. THE PRINCE AND PRINCESS OF WALES DUKE OF YORK DUCHESS OF YORK MARQUIS OF LORNE PRINCESS LOUISE DUCHESS OF ALBANY DUKE OF ALBANY DUCHESS OF CONNAUGHT DUKE OF CONNAUGHT PRINCE CHRISTIAN PRINCESS HELENA In twenty years time, of those still alive, many would be on opposite sides of a terrible war.
  25. I thought it looked familiar: http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,36798.msg232286.html#msg232286
