Furious! 3 second-hand books delivered from the US today...£8.66 VAT charge, AND £9.00 charged by RM for handling! Firstly, I never realised we paid duty on books and, secondly, does this mean it's impossible to import a book without incurring a Royal Mail Handling Fee of £9.00?

I'd say that would be very difficult to make a call, based on the images? There does appear to be a 'blob' in the teeth, and a possible die split running down beneath that into the I. Without a better close-up, for me I can only speculate and say a damaged I and curio/research value only.

I was just wondering whether this could be an unrecorded and potentially very unusual mule, what do you all think? There is a mishmash between the I of REGI and the E of ELIZABETH, which is of course home to a privy mark! I'm hoping it's a 2, as the reverse is a '1' on a 1601 dated coin! To me, even the mess, shows components of a two, in particular the upper curve of one, right alongside the I of REGI, not to mention it looking particularly 2-shaped in the central region???? What do you think?

I have to say, buying these G3 pieces is becoming a bit of a nightmare. I'd definitely spend a month digesting seuk's site before making any big money moves, it'll be interesting to hear his thoughts on these 2 (whether he has them documented as counterfeits/modern copies, etc.). As he has probably the best resource for these coins available to-date, it could be worth him centralising all the above noted points by CGS into one place, albeit non contemporary coinage, no doubt?

Do you know what, Ski, that's really interesting, and I think it's been mentioned before, but I never picked up the latter parts of this thread by using the 'search for new content' feature that I do! So don't be underwhelmed, I think threads can genuinely slip below the radar sometimes, according to how people browse the forum, and when? If a forum or thread's icon is dark not light in colour, that means there are new posts since your last visit. It's what I go on, and apart from a few glitches, it hasn't let me down. I've always used the 'new content' feature, especially when using the IP Board App. on the iPhone! It's a habit that transfers quite readily when I get on the laptop...it shouldn't, but probably does, miss the occasional thing!

For future reference, on sites like this, you might attract attention with a post such as this one...most of us are always interested in new avenues and things new! But overdo it, and you come across more as a spammer! Another tip, give us a name, not an impersonal Ltd!

Have you a reference to the catalogue - there's nothing on the web site? No, it's rubbish isn't it, guess they might get round to putting something up there before the 4th! You normally have to email to ask even when the auction is!

I'd be there every time if I actually lived in Croydon! There are certainly some bargains, especially if you stay until the end (I remember loads of people drifting off early on, after already filling their pockets), you just have to be there and trust your own judgement (take a loupe)!

But if you do go you feel as if you're at a village fair! Or primary school assembly, or amateur dramatic play...

Every single coin I bought there was at least 1/2 to a full grade over, you absolutely cannot distance-buy with Croydon!

Oh Crap! I was considering this the other day! Was considering taking the penny collection back to Edgar so the album would span a millennia although the price of some of the hammered pennies scares the hell out of me! Mm I wonder if could slip those under Mrs J's radar ! A thousand years of pennies! Now there's a thought! That would cover a few specialities!

The odd thing is, they actually sell some nice coins, they just need to do better by the consignors and get that website sorted out! Edit: actually, on second thought, they should leave it just as it is!

They really need to do something about that site, and Croydon Coins! £100,000 coin sold by them, and they can't keep an updated site.
