  1. Hi Mike, VF relates to the grade Very Fine, also if you are looking to sell the coins etc there is a section in the forum called Items for sale, maybe you could put the ones you wanted to sell in there and perhaps try and make some better quality pictures (if possible) of the items you wanted to sell. I would be interested to see a better picture of the Geo III halfcrown bullhead as i do like these coins. Hope that helps.
  2. I was checking out some coins and just wondered why 1854 coins seem to be worth a whole lot more than some other dates IE 1854 Shillings and sixpences. I don't know why this is or why it seems to be a key date, can someone please enlighten me?
  3. What's most annoying is that a collector never finds these things in their backyard lol
  4. What say you now Peckris?
  5. Its the Irish Tricolor lol.............i'm still hoping my first assumption is correct :-)
  6. Peter, if money was no object, i'd be poor collecting all those nice UNC coins
  7. I hope its the weight, it will make me feel better for the panic i set in Also Mary, the spink number refers to the spink book of coins, each coin has a number logged to it, that number would be the number for the coin in the book
  8. Hi there, it looks like you have the luck of the Irish, what you have there is a Guinea spink number 3726, it looks a good very fine grade to me and worth around 2500 pounds. I hope my assumption is correct, am sure one of the older collectors of the forum will give a positive ID, but it looks very much like it
  9. If anyone is selling a coin, could they maybe list them here first before selling elswhere, maybe someone on the forum would like to buy before anyone else, just a thought
  10. Yes but you are limited to 30k
  11. Ok, i've had a wee think, and considering i like my halfcrowns, it would have to be this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230441565876&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  12. Thats 3k down then
  13. If money was no object, what coin would be first on your purchase list: For me, i have no idea as yet, i'm still relatively new at this, but i'm interested to know what a seasoned collector would buy, lets not be to outrageous though, lets say for arguements sake that you have a spare 20-30k
  14. The rarest coin in circulation has got to be that of a Scotsmans, right? ;-)
  15. Not that i have the money for this, but i just thought it was a nice piece. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270532582609&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  16. I agree with Red, if its been passed down through a family member or you have had it for quite a number of years, chances are that it will be original. The owner of this forum has a book out on British coins, its called Collectors Coins GB, its only about 7 pounds and could probably get it from WH Smiths or so, that will give you weights and a guide on prices for your coins. If you have many foreign coins then i'd suggest the Krause book of world coins, its a hefty book at around 1200/1400 pages long, but it also goes by Centuries 1800-1900 1900-2000 so beware what you buy, maybe look through the most common century and purchase that book. If you have any German coins, Kaisserreich etc i have a book for that, so you're ok there.
  17. Rory, best way for me to capture an image is always in natural daylight and not at night with a flash, maybe that will help with better images, or if you have a scanner that works for some people also, i personally use a digi camera in natural daylight.
  18. Nope, it's a Gothic crown as Rory surmised in what looks like at least EF condition. Value some way north of £1k as long as it isn't a forgery which is quite possible. Edge inscription would suggest a crown
  19. The 1st 2 i suspect are Geo III Halfcrowns. Couple of rarities in that year. Maybe post some pictures of those, i like my Halfcrowns, hate shillings
  20. Hi Rory your coin certainly looks like a Gothic Florin, take a look at the 11th page in Coin Aquisition of the Week, i have just purchased one myself, then tell us what the roman numerals are around the OBV that will tell us the date.

    Hey all

Welcome Rory, if you take a few pictures and slowly load them into the forum am sure someone might help, dunno about the Japenese 1s though, but you never know your luck. Maybe start with the English ones and then work your way to the overseas coins. Good luck
  22. Possibly, but as they say, knowledge is power, so read read read.

    Information

I would suggest any coin in gold would have Bullion Value or the weight in gold as its value, also if you can post a picture it helps other members with its identification and can also help grade it for you.
  24. Here's another example of the same sellers NICE coins
  25. Here is the Halfpenny Proof slighty touched
