  1. Great. At least we can say we know what it is now ! Are they quite common ? To be honest i could'nt say, but at least we have managed to sort out what it is. You said you had 2 coin/medals? Do you have a picture of the other?
  2. The picture you have uploaded is a jubilee medal.
  3. To be honest both sound very odd, how could anyone depict Victoria before she aged, i would assume that it might not be the given date. A few pictures of both coins of both sides would help. There is an upload function at the bottom of the page. 150kb max per picture. It would be better if you made 4 posts of each side of both coins at that size if the coins are worn so we can have a close-up view.
  4. DaveG38 put me down for a book, am hoping you take Paypal or have a German bank account. I also agree with Declan and Red about the good ebay sellers guide, would help people here who don't wanna trawl through all the dross that gets sold on ebay. Great idea Declan
  5. Personally i think Ebay gets a wider audience, depending on what it is you are selling. Gold jewellery always gets cash (scrap value) I know a lot of people here knock it, but if you are looking to sell items then i think its the best place for not so high ticket items. I tend not to buy coins from there, although i did buy 1 yesterday from RLC from this site, i tend to go for safe options if i do buy coins from Ebay (which isn't often)
  6. Well i bet you are a happy father that your 17 year old has taken up a hobby like this other than some other activities that a lot of 17 year olds get up to these days. I'd be happy to try and reference anything he'd bring home.
  7. Seriously, is this an EF? Is he for real http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330432904530&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp3907.m570.l1313%26_nkw%3D330432904530%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1
  8. I got an 1818 Geo III HC earlier this year, the crown and the head were upside down on that particular one, there was a long debate about it until someone came along with a genuine one. Where the 3 lions are there is lines going through the shield, the one i had, had the lines running through the lions tail, the genuine one didn't. Weight should always be checked along with any wear to the silver to see if there's brass colouring underneath
  9. Lol, try spending any Scottish notes in England
  10. I wonder if the seller even knew what it was lol, no mention of the signature on the description
  11. 400 offering a pint, i'll be over 1st flight before old age sets in
  12. Geeez, that doesn't even look like a quid
  13. So what do we make of this Gothic Crown (Chinese Seller) on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220601768117&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  14. Here's another Chinese seller, looks like he/she is selling fakes judging by the 4 neutral feedbacks but is saying the item is genuine. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220601768117&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  15. We've bought from nyame too, and we were happy. One of Richparfishing's favourite coin sources, by the way. Yeah that's who i was talking about Declan, the thought of even buying anything other than food from a Chinese person worries me and won't touch it with a barge pole
  16. Ok cheers Rob, Chinese sellers are off my limits
  17. Was trawling ebay and came accross this seller from China, now don't get me wrong, maybe i'm just paranoid about all these Chinese fakes that are doing the rounds, but would be interested in some of the older hands of the forums opinions on some of his coins http://cgi.ebay.com/Florin-1899-AEF-Scarce-NR-/310217802273?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item483a6c0221 Ok, so what am more paranoid about if these are fakes, is the fact there is a few British sellers buying of this guy, 1 of note, i've seen before and someone quoted him selling junk most of the time anyway but the problem could now be is that he's gonna sell these of as originals. Take a look at the Chinese sellers feedback and you'll see who i mean. As i said, maybe i'm just paranoid.
  18. Nice pad but unfortunately not worth sheeeeeeeeet
  19. And we look forward to seeing your coins
  20. Hi Rob and welcome to the forum and to coin collecting as a whole. Many people here can help you with many questions, its better to ask the questions rather than not, as a relatively newcomer myself i've found lots of help from the people here. You should never think that asking to many questions is a wrong thing, and ask as many as it needs to help you. Yes you can post pictures here up to 150kb max, it does also help with grading and determining what your coins are, i personally upload hi grade pics, each 150kb for OBV and REV, i just make 2 posts for each side. As for books, well there are many different ones out there, Spink being the market leader i would say, the owner of this site has allso written a coin book, very helpful to, there's also coin yearbook, but i won't confuse you with them all, i would suggest to start with the New Spink book 2010 if you have a lot of various different coins. I hope thats helped a little to start you off down the road of collecting and i hope to see some of your pictures soon Azda
  21. This is what am talking about Leviathan, this guy is a dealer and the very person we as buyers we are supposed to trust, so if we start to distrust dealers, then what?
  22. The problem being is that he also ups its grade as well. Another example.................................. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280498050311 <<<< bought by his wife Selling now cleaned, you can still see the stain in the crown http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1883-VICTORIA-GOTHIC-FLORIN-EF-/230470768068?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item35a920d5c4
  23. Personally i'd call it stealing, this guy is a dealer, someone for people like us that we are supposed to trust. I emailed one guy who had bought the coin i had sold to his alias, he replied to me today and said he had spoken with him and was gonna give him a full refund. I wonder now if he'll stop or continue his crappy practise.
