Yes. You have until a certain date to register your interest in a lot and then after the closing date, it's between you and whoever else has entered the minimum starting bid. You then keep going backwards and forwards until everyone else gives up and you are the last man standing. Can go on for a week or more. Oh right, thanks for that. Presumably the winner is the one whose bid still stands after say, 24 hours, with no further rival bids ? ~ and that everybody is still in the race until that point. From memory, last time I got an email every time I was outbid asking me if I wanted to continue. I think there must be a time limit if they don't hear from you, can't remember what it is though. I think it's called "taking the piss" I'll save my money for auctions where I know when it ends and where my first bid is my only bid (whether highest lowest or derisory compared to others). The 1896 Penny that i showed in the "Coin aquisiton of the week" Scott, you quoted that it was the most common with a wide gap between the 18 and 96, now its something different? So much confusion between collectors equals chaos me thinks

In reality that's ludicrously expensive. I believe Azda posted on here saying how much cheaper it was in Germany. It's not the £30-£50 a year that's the issue, but the £10 every time you want to access it. No doubt he will confirm, but apparently there is no access charge in Germany. No there is NO access charge here Red, i pay a rental charge for the safety deposit box, maybe 20 euros a quarter, but i can go everday as long as the bank is open without extra charge. RIP OFF BRITAIN, another reason i left.

It looks like a normal I to me, just the bottom of the I is a little worn to the left making it look like an inverted 1

I'd suggest that the coin is in better condition than F, i'd say nearer the VF mark personally

I've found a lower-spec version for 80 quid plus VAT: http://www.absolute-data-services.co.uk/dinolite_am211.htm I'm wondering if this might be good enough simply for scanning my collection for insurance record purposes. I am assuming that foil is the similar kind as foil caps that seal milk canisters...it must be backed with some kind of material to create that lasting impression with such sharp detail. I would not recommend anyone trying this with rare coins directly on foil... On the Mohs scale of mineral hardness aluminium is 2.5-3 and copper is 3.0 so there is every chance of scratches being sustained!
