  1. You mean all that cleaning he did was in vain? Lol, i don't think it was cleaned Peck, he just could'nt up the grade (like he normally does) because of the obvious wear. The original seller had it listed as AU am sure, 1949 had mentioned it to me sometime this year when we were talking about buying key dates and i said i did'nt agree with jmb4homes grade, it seems i was right, the wear on Britannians legs and on Victoria was evident from the original dark pictures from jmb4home
  2. This was Dundee yesterday, it's June isn't it? http://news.stv.tv/scotland/tayside/260002-freak-hailstorm-in-scotlands-sunniest-city/
  3. And may i say welcome to the whinging Aussie
  4. Thought i'd spotted this coin before and was right. 1869 penny recently sold by Martin Platt, he bought it here http://cgi.ebay.ca/1...=item53dc852654 price equates to around 842 GBP plus whatever the postage was and so he sold it here for 675 GBP minus his 10% ebay fees which comes to 607 GBP, so a nice loss of 235 GBP. http://cgi.ebay.co.u..._fvi%3D1&_rdc=1 You can see its the same coin, the dig on Victorias neck gives it away, at that rate he should be bankrupt within a year, unless we see it listed again. I assume he was banking on the fact he had 81 watchers on the coin in the last 12 hours. personally with that many watchers i would have thought it would have went up a little more to, but hey ho
  5. Lets not forget the 1940 single exergue line, that is also scarce
  6. Up and down but everybody says the same. Seems like you've had a complete change of occupation too, quite envious at the moment but December... Wherry's OK but don't get me started on poxy Greene King IPA! You have email from me Derek
  7. I wish. That was when I lived on the Kent/Sussex borders. Now that I have relocated to North Essex, I find I am living in a beer desert. IPA and Woodfordes Wherry ? Exceedingly poor fare. Guilty of absence sir - it's taken me a while to adjust to the new lifestyle. Hopefully becoming more settled now and might even resume the penny collecting. Then again, I might look at something else because I don't have the money I once had and I notice prices haven't come down. How's the dealing coming along ? Unfortunately 400 prices won't come down, farthings are a cheaper option
  8. It does sound familiar, the lambs to the slaughter part reminds me of Martin Platts customers
  9. I sold an 1854 sixpence early last year in ebay, graded as good fine near VF and got 360 quid for it. So even with a hole you'd get a few quid for it i'm sure
  10. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/index.html reference & attribution site
  11. Was it ST Hellier that we owned (a strategic point between Britain and France) we also ruled part of North Germany at one time, think that came from Geo III who was born there, or was it Geo IV? Its strange though, Britain dominated quite a large part of the planet and there was'nt much said about it, but when Adolf tried it
  12. Yes bob i did notice, but there was one man i didn't mention and he's having a ball on the 2mm, always bids, unfortunately never wins lol.
  13. Maybe what you did'nt notice is that 1 of his SPECIAL friends is also bidding in the 2mm Just Look through the bid sheet and see whio's bidded on his coins the most in the last 30 days
  14. Actually, thinking about it, have you thought of putting some of your stuff on e bay, Derek. You might shift one or two bits of stock that are presently just sitting there dormant, as it were. I do sell the bum end of various bulk lots on e-bay but that's about it at present. I know it is not unusual for coins to sit in dealers' trays for many a year and that's okay, these pieces can happily hang around with prices periodically adjusted to reflect market trends until the right buyer comes along. I had considered starting an e-bay shop but for the moment I am happy with my website. Like many dealers I do frequently buy coins on e-bay which I consider to be undervalued and this has so far been reasonably successful both in terms of buying in and selling on. I have however noticed a trend away from items being sold in the auction format towards Buy It Nows which, if it continues could restrict the supply of stock to the trade. Perhaps those people selling their undervalued coins have also noticed that they sold cheaply, hence the rush of BINs
  15. No, peck is reffering to my image sizes
  16. Well i am going to edinburgh in a few weeks , i just got back from selling at the car boot made a good profit i also came across and old tobacco tin not really my seen but picked it up for 20pence. just checked out ebay and there actually worth allot more than that lol heres a pic http://i1205.photobu...06-12at1523.jpg not sure if i should sell it what do you all think? Look up online or the yellow pages and see where they are before you go, if you're looking to buy coins then sell sell sell and save up for your wee trip to the Capital
  17. Another fellow Scotsman, i'm from Dundee but living in Munich just now. Can't believe there's no dealers up there, if you ever head out of the Granite city perhaps Edinburgh or Glawgow is your best bet for dealers, failing that car boots sales and antique shops.
  18. Not sure if there's any early Roman coinage experts out there, you'll have to wait and see if you get a reply on that. Take a look around the coin aquisition of the week thread, lots of good info and pictures around there.
  19. By the looks of it you didn't find any coins while digging Declan, bummer, all that dirt for nada
  20. Welcome to the forum Wayne, good to see a young collector. Are you looking for advice also on some of your collection? Now that you are earning a crust, old enough to drink, smoke and vote where will your collecting interests be? Are you going to collect from around the world or stick to British etc etcetc? Best advice is, buy some books on your subject, look around at grades and pricing and don't get stung. If you need any help there are many dealers around on this site, they are very helpful, so don't be afraid to ask, even if you think it might sound silly to the wiser heads in here, its better to ask. Feel free also to upload some of your coins, you can upload 150kb per post or use a hosting site such as photobucket then copy the url into your post and we'll see the picture. A half decent camera is also very helpful
  21. He only sells through ebay 400, and with a coin like that you gotta think that he's a tight bar steward and not setting up a website. Wonder what his ebay fees are like lol
  22. I do exactly the same AJ, balcony ledge and slightly shaded natural light
  23. It looks worse than it is due to the lagre picture, but the scratch on Viccies face seems to run up through her hair, so am wondering if its a die crack.
  24. Unfortunately this is not the case with certain ebay sellers (names shall remain nameless for now) but some people are relying on some certain peoples say so and by god eventually they will be stung, unfortunately we cannot mention certain peoples names on this forum because i assume the seller in question has already spoke to the forum owner about my very vocal opinions about him. I'm sure though now all is ok because i've caught him shill bidding and have a sheet as long as your arm about a certain ebay seller...
  25. Good to See you're alive, well and possibly sober 400:)
