i like toning, a good natual tone is lovely, american coins tone with crazy colours...

coin i most enjoy owning is my 1858 small date farthing, VF grade cost me as fiver a good few years back, which i bought as a cheap example of the copper design (and only for that lol)

seen some interesting thins on there. insidently, i have a first 1 over lower 1 penny.. now wasn't a 1 over 1 halfpenny listed

going through all my buns to sort them out, had little problems so far, that is until i came to my reverse D's 2 of which are obverse 4 which is easy to identify one is very worn but looks like 6+D however i am stumped on one more, which is either 2 or 3.. as these coins are worn, how do i distinguish with such minute changes. same with 1889 obverses. and my second question, what are the raritys of all the pairings

as has been said, each of the early buns were manually cut, having slight differances or larger spreads, and some of reverses especially are hard to pick out in fine or lower, but if we have all these differant datespreads surly we can find out exactly what dye it is using this method?

most hammered coins are not dipped to be made shiny though, most are cleaned up carefully sso no.. this is why i would never touch AUNC UNC silver, i look for a bit of toning that comes with age, that shows it is high grade more then anything

i have it for 1845 which i dont see listed, if that is the case that it exists for 44 then my 45 FID. might be using that same reverse dye

only 38 million, compared to 200+ million of other years i think all the decimal designs are poor, tbh the designs since 1860 got slowly worse anyway

no there were no shield 50p's

yea i checked today. turns out the 16 sports series 50p's were not minted in the same numbers the most any one design were minted was 1 million. for some odd reason, cycling is only 400,000 rest are 800-900k there is also a guild guide one at 510,090 and for another intrigue, only 38 million 2010 2 pences
