Debbie At the end of the day we all have our favorites,some love lustre on copper...I do as well but I'm quite content with a nice even brown tone. I won't buy coins with edge damage or verdigris but don't have a problem with a certain amount of wear.I'm very found of good eye appeal and when you see a dealer occasionaly describe a coin as pleasing it gets my attention. I didn't bid on last weekends London coin auction but was sorely tempted by LOT 1778 which was a 1775 1/2d.If I saw it at a coin fair for £110 I would buy it.I went through a lot of cold turkey by not bidding....and not the boxing day type.

Trouble is though UK dealers differentiate so much.A novice could buy 5 coins from every dealer who advertise in Coin News...all Unc and I bet you would get a spread of NEF to Choice Unc.At least PCGS and NGC would probably be fairly consistant. Lets be honest here...who hasn't bought an Unc from a UK dealer and then compared it to your own GEF and it doesn't cut it ? Learn the hard way and send em back....

I won't bother, They constantly fail to meet deadlines and don't even get it printed in the UK. It took them years to even attempt to catch up with Peck/Freeman..far better info is out there. If Rotographic sorted the milled series prior to 1797 job done.

Spot on Rob. I've pointed out mistakes in museums many times,usually they don't seem too bothered. I did tell one Ebay seller what he had...It was a William 1 1d and he had dated it by using the Seaby nr 1250 something (it was an inherited coin). As with all auction houses,dealers and sellers if you know your subject and the research has been done you are top dog. It would take me an age to attribute a load of Victorian Bun pennies....I've probably binned a few open 3's

Our AUNC would be MS60-62. MS63=UNC & any MS after this will have good eye appeal/better strike etc. A MS65 will be a choice UNC & anything above this will be a wallet buster. With our TPG CGS. A CGS80 will be very nice and 85 superb probably a PCGS MS65/6. My own records use UNC or AUNC...I never use BU unless it was minted yesterday.(and I don't collect those)Note that CC never use BU...always practically or nearly. I've bought a couple of PCGS & NGC MS65's and as far as I can see they are superb

Here is a bit of info on the Sheldon grading system http://coins.about.com/od/coingrading/f/sheldon_scale.htm I think once you get to MS63 (graded by PCGS or NGC) you will be getting a reasonable UNC coin with maybe a few bag marks...MS65 plus and it will be choice UNC. MS70 for currency is so rare and sought(the Yanks pay HUGE premiums). The shilling isn't pretty and I would of been disappointed if bought blind. Be wary of other slabbed coins as a lot are done by "self slabbers" also other TPG companies in the US don't have such a good reputation.

Be warned and make sure that your Ebay/Paypal accounts are bomb proof. My main selling account was randomly checked for money laundering. The Email Address was my 16 yr old daughters and verified by my wife's bank account and my credit card. It is illegal to use my daughters Email as she is under 18. What I have had to do is end 15 listings without being able to apologise to bidders.Scan a passport of my daughter to paypal and hopefully when the funds in paypal can (hopefully) be transferred to my buying account...close my selling account down.(nearly £1,000 in obeyance ) I suppose it is a good thing that checks are made but it has been a right hassle since 17:30 to try and sort all this out. Be wary and don't trust your kids to set up accounts.....although she makes the keyboard smoke with her quickness. She hasn't lost her job as chief lister though.

It may grade GF but with the piercing and other damage it would be "poor" money...the same as clear date buns. Even though it is a key date I'm afraid it's bin material.

Don't know what has happened...I was confused because I was under the impression you had added ME as a friend....as you say we've been conversing since Xmas 2004 & I haven't touched a drop of the hard stuff for months. Well, I had an email saying you had added me as a friend to which I wasn't allowed a reply. Do we have gremlins in the system? I think we should be told. I think there must be something unless one of us has fat fingers. I was suprised but I'm sure if we both get counselling we can be friends
