  1. Perhaps! I don't remember any similar lots and couldn't find any from a quick search though.
  2. I've come across this remarkable dish that looks like it has what would've been an impressive coun collection embedded in it (sadly polished smoothly...). Does anyone know how they were set in it and whether the coins could ever be removed? Thanks!
  3. This look suspiciously like a roughed up modern replica to anyone else? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204158103225?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=2_uh5A_cSAi&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=G6uCbYI7QUO&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  4. I was just amused by the 'fake' spelling of Withers. 😉
  5. The 'Whithers' is a giveaway, too!
  6. Thanks for your replies, everyone! I'll do some more digging. I would assume the Royal Australian Mint, judging by John's alias.
  7. No proof, sadly. It's from a collection formed in the '40s and '50s I'm working my way through.
  8. I've come across what I believe to be a blank for a nickel brass threepence. It weighs 6.84 grams which fits, but I've never come across one before as I imagine they'd have been hard to smuggle out of the Mint. (I also wasn't expecting it to be circular as I'd never thought about how the geometric shape would've later been made!). Has anyone else come across something similar?
  9. Me? Thank you! Been nearly two years but had a strong urge to check out my old haunts. Hope you're all doing well!
  10. I'm finding it cheaper to buy from well known dealers than eBay or auction houses. How times have changed... 🤯
  11. Wonderful example.
  12. Wonderful finds and context!
  13. An interesting example! My thought is it's a continuation from the engraving of the die and not a deliberate element of the design, the portrait is definitely Edward III. I've seen similar ones before, e.g. the below.
  14. I've just uploaded a new list to my website should it be of interest to anyone here. Plenty of silver hammered coins and a smattering of milled. http://historiccoinage.com/newadditions.php
  15. This was originally £1,999 when I posted, so looks like the decimal point has been corrected now.
  16. Quality collection. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Metal-Detecting-Rare-Old-Collection-DAMAGED-7x-coins/113802988607?hash=item1a7f2fcc3f:g:RJcAAOSwED1dEofe
  17. Enjoy the description on this beauty. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Anglo-Saxon-Silver-Coin/223492329770?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D57478%26meid%3Dffbbf304db1e444980f83cbdef708e53%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D163663592092%26itm%3D223492329770&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
  18. True. Maybe it's the light and metal that makes it look porous then.
  19. Looking for coins and...? 😥 One way to clean them.
  20. It looks to be an imitation of a Henry VII halfgroat (depending on diameter). I'd not think it's contemporary, it looks somewhat soapy which makes me think it's been cast and deliberately 'aged' as I see this a lot with the Westair pieces people modify before listing on online auction sites.
  21. Agreed. Likely a Pinecone-Mascle issue penny (most common after Annulet issue, I believe, and yours isn't an Annulet).
  22. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ANGLO-SAXON-LOT-OF-CUT-OFFA-EADVVEARD-SILVER-PENNIES/282967930167?hash=item41e233f537:g:FQsAAOSwgKBawVa5 https://www.ebay.com/itm/ANGLO-SAXON-WULFRED-CUT-SILVER-PENNY-ARCHBISHOPS-OF-CANTERBURY-805-832-AD/282967930169?hash=item41e233f539:g:CqAAAOSw6T9awWNO Others in the listings, too.
  23. A better Tealby than most! Nice find.
  24. Check out the photo... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132504815553?ViewItem=&item=132504815553
