hahahahhahhhahhhhahahhahahahahh π€£ π errrmmmmm !?!?!? its been a lifetime of uneducated purchases pre computer, condition wasn't high on my list of priorities...now having the time work through The Hoard some good have turned up...mind you 80% ? is pretty poor condition...but Hey! its been an adventure and wont be getting the time to go back and try again... to be fair looking at the pages in a loose date order they look pretty impressive ....just dont look to closely at them... I'm not thinking it will be ever worth a kings ransom, but finding the odd gem as I go through these is a treat, Thankyou one and allπ

over the year Ive been sifting through my coins and put Colonial Coins in another bag to sort out at a later date and create some organisation .... I have checked and found that most are .925 silver so at the very least scrap.... However...some of these seem to be quite scarce... The 1887 Canada, 10 cents, Mintage 350 000 The 1891 British Guiana and West Indies, Fourpence, Mintage 336β―000 The 1918 Australia, Threepence, Mintage 3β―119β―000...... ok so not a rarity... the Victorian Colonial coins of this lot are the scarcer and as the page of the ones I own is growing its a becoming real eye opener...π

I have found (so far) 2x 1835, 1x 1839, 1x, 1842, 4x,1843 (I read that this date is the most common with over dates as well, but none of mine are, I think it was 43 over 34?!?!) 1x, 1862... I had these in with Victorian Maundy one pence coins car boot find, I still had the cash bag from Midlands Bank that they came in... miss them days. π₯²

2nd find today whilst sifting through the hoard ...... worth mentioning that on closure inspection whilst magnifying the photo it looked like it was a attempted hole being drilled.....but then looking again I think this has been a die fault issue....I have other Colonial issue coins with faults and again, to find this it makes my day π any thoughts or in put greatly welcome. π

so finding this whilst sifting through the hoard and thought it worth a mention being that its in a good condition and ask for an opinion of its grade... however...! on closure inspection and magnifying the photo it looks like it was struck with a cracked die..... π don't know about you ....its a real treat (for me) to find these faults...π

Ah ! So prompted by Paddy I delved back into a box of duplicates, high grades & oddities that are to good to part with, I wasn't sure if I had any variations of the 1887 Shilling, I don't have the young head, only the second portrait.....none in the duplicate box...aha I did find another 1872 this one has the Die No 29....Memo: this was kept as at some point you could be assed to move the coins to create a space so Die No 29 will slot in with the other 1872.....!?!? it also has a deformed N in Britanniar .... ....Yes a Rabbit Hole...but its a ocd world I seem to be living in.... π

valuation Whats is the value of this coin considering the grade?
Citizen H replied to D.Urra's topic in Free for all
Crickey! pleasantly surprising to realize that on checking I have Half Crowns..... 4x George III, 3x William IIII, 16x Victoria, 2x Edward VII, & 9x George V....its prompted me to look more into these, some a quite good grades....others aren't.... I haven't been overly concerned about the values as getting things in denomination and date order was more of a priority....however.. this will also need looking into. π -
for me its a real eye opener ..... the earliest one I have is 1822 George IIII, 1/16th Dollar, West Indies. .892 silver, It made me realise that a lot of these have been rejected by others because for not being British coins and so written off as being foreign...... I have over the years found in the Hoard Box a couple of William IIII, 1835, 1/4 Rupee, East India Company, .917 Silver & 1836 1/2 Guilder, Guiana, .8166 Silver (Minted for only one year and classed as being quite rare) the rest I have found to be Victorian, Edward VII, George V, from all over, Canada, India, Mauritius, China, Ceylon, Cyprus, Australia, East Africa & West Africa...... beginning to put these in date order in a sleeve....

these may be worth a show.... Edward VII & George V British Empire Coins I have a page of these forming...interesting that they come in different Silver Grades not all are .925 .....

so Ive been having a look around since the suggestion of that it maybe a Irish Farthing coming to light...so could this be. 1 Farthing - Edward I Dublin, Long Cross 1279-1284 I'm writing this down with a Question Mark alongside it.... its great to be able to place information alongside the coins even though its questionable...A huge thanks to Stu for spotting this π

I'm not a modern coin collector...I use to keep an eye out for the undated 20p's and during the Olympics 50p's were circulating I sold them as I found them and made a good return on them.....and saw them reduce in price as time moved on....However today The 2025 King Charles III Bees Β£1 coin was in my small change....now its claimed to be currently the rarest circulating uk Β£1 coin, with only 170,000 entering circulation.......Is this true or just hype ? I see them on ebay for silly money but not wanting to get caught up with this game....

Wreath Crown - Horrible Discolouration
Citizen H replied to Coys55's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
a small test area on the outer edge may be an option before hitting of either of sides .... may be ethanol just a thought please see below π Ethanol can clean silver, but it is important to use it cautiously. Isopropyl alcohol can help remove light tarnish and grease, but it may damage certain finishes. Pure ethanol is generally considered safe for silver, but avoid using denatured alcohol or those with additives. Prolonged exposure to alcohol can lead to subtle changes in silver's surface properties, so it's best to use it sparingly. For optimal cleaning, consider using 70% rubbing alcohol or an alcohol-based cleaner, ensuring no harmful additives are present. Always test on a small area first to prevent any potential damage. -
.....its actually as the coin is.... if you take a look at the ruler the measurement is clear... a blurry coin with little to go on....its truly rubbed, washed and being only about 10mm in size..I was well impressed that www.HistoricCoinage.com was able help out. ππ

well......these are ones that have been picked up years ago....I'm still working through boxes, what's to keep, what's to rehome... etc, I don't have this date and so.... I end up moving the coins on the page so they remain in date order.... its a real challenge wondering how many spaces to leave between coins just in case another one turns up....... π Why? do I put my self through this????

1 Shilling - George II Young bust..... I do recall reading that during a reign coins often became worn due to their frequent use and circulation. was this the case with with George II that the coin become so bad such as this one ? Admittedly the reverse isn't so bad so ..... this has the next question.... how would this be graded?
-
Awesome...I really thought it was truly rubbed to oblivion .......thank you very much for the input its really helpful. π
