  1. Ebay, it's not ALL that bad, is it? Let's post some coins that we're happy we picked up on that much-maligned den of iniquity. I'll start. I picked up this Cromwell shilling in 2002 and I was very pleased with it at the time. I think it has been lightly cleaned at some time but is re-toning nicely. Prooflike fields. It wasn't a bargain, in fact, double EF book at the time😲. My inexperience led me into an adrenaline-fuelled bidding war.
  2. I agree, what about an 'Ebay's BEST Offerings' Topic, where we all share our doozies and say what a great selling site it can be?
  3. I agree with Sword When compared to the example on the RCT site it does look poor. https://www.rct.uk/collection/443347/victoria-proof-jubilee-head-crown
  4. Kunker have excellent videos accompanying their upcoming auction offerings. I feel quite moist😋
  5. Most of Science-Kenneth's coins seem to have had similar 'treatment'. 😎 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1723-GEORGE-I-Shilling-In-Superb-UNC-condition-really-needs-to-be-seen/233620251762?hash=item3664da2472:g:pQIAAOSwrHNe59YG Such a shame, if genuine as there are some nice examples in there.
  6. That reminds me Mike, I was once asked to come up with a list of 10 sexual innuendoes... I inadvertently came up with 11, so I had to rub one out.
  7. This topic is turning in to a script from Finbarr Saunders and his double entendres😂
  8. Ooh err missus. I do miss Frankie Howerd.
  9. hear hear, i’ve grown to detest that rag, drinks all round.
  10. Pfff, Mum's sure aren't what they used to be🙁
  11. I hadn't heard of Henry's snicking episode before, thanks. It brought this interesting article to my attention. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/medieval-all-the-moneyers-who-were-in-england-should-be-mutilated.290165/
  12. Set in Denmark Rob, Elsinore castle in the 1600’s, around the same time it was written. Good question, I hadn’t thought that maybe Shakespeare could have been referring to a Danish law at that time. Then again, the term appears to be colloquial, ‘cracked in the ring’, more for use before a contemporary, English speaking, audience who would have been conversant with the term. I’ll continue to delve. thx
  13. I was watching Larry’s portrayal of Hamlet last night and my ears did prick up, yea verily. Hamlet, 2.2.428-429: "a piece of uncurrent gold, be not cracked within the ring" A piece of uncurrent gold: a gold coin that is not legal tender, i.e, cracked within the ring: Apparently, if a coin had a crack from the edge into the circle surrounding the monarchs head (was "cracked within the ring") it was "uncurrent," i.e, not legal tender. Is this mentioned in any numismatic reference books, cracked coin not being legal tender? This seems plausible as one does encounter more cracked silver than gold. What sayest thees or thous?
  14. If I had to chose, I think that Charles II would lead the way in the Portrait stakes, he cuts a dashing figure. And thank goodness for small mercy’s, no Hapsburg jaws.
  15. I agree, bordering on the ugly I'd say, a face only a mother could love. However, if the beauty of the monarch was high up on the list of selection criteria, there would be a lot of empty cabinets around😉
  16. Another one, 1561this time. (Spink 2020 plate coin). B&B 21 dies 2/2 (NEF?)
  17. Still in the post, one of the abundant Mestrelle sixpences. Borden & Brown 24-O3 24-R5 - easy to spot this one with the die flaw on the reverse, below the shield. This one appears to have a tail on the 6, I'll be interested to see if it was cut into the die.
  18. Hi Colin, Looks like an Indian temple token - Good King Ram. Here's a link to get you started: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_temple_tokens
  19. Even the Government saw the benefits
  20. There’s one of these coming up for sale in an auction i follow soon. There were some amazing toys around for kids back in the day, before HS & E kicked in. Good times😂
  21. Keep it together Secret, there's always a light and usually not a train coming the other way. It's nothing new......
  22. Agree, does seem a strange choice of coin to copy though there are differences with Wayne’s coin don’t you think?
  23. Looks like different dies so probably not a restrike. What's the weight? Should be spot on 19g
