I'm suspicious that you know the legend reads Clodius Septimius Albinus Caes, because on all Roman coins there are no spaces and it can be very difficult to read what they say on them....So how did you know where to put the spaces? If it's a real coin then it's clearly from the time of Clodius Albinus (about 195AD). You should attach a picture to your next post.

The problem with that idea (like the Whitman folders of the 60's) is that when people find new varieties you suddenly don't have enough room....Also, if a space for every known variety was given, you'd have gaps all over the place that would probably never get filled.

They'd tried to include html in the post in order to make it more difficult to report. Fortunately, I was still able to delete them both. It's so ridiculous isn't it, all it is, is a complete waste of my time....And why is it always in the beginners area I wonder. I'll have a look to see if I can make that area less attractive to those dodgy gits with no life that insist on advertising questionable wares.

Earlier today the member sunyang spammed at least 15 of the most recent topics with similar messages about coins for sale, with an email address, and pictures of Chinese coins. This is absolutely not acceptable, and will not be tolerated! The messages have been deleted, the user has been banned without notice. Their email has been banned as has the whole IP range from which the user registered. This behaviour is childish, annoying and any attempts by sunyang or anyone else to repeat this will be removed right away, so to even think about it would be futile.

Granted the non-coin trinkets are naff,However,lots of interesting new sets,whats amateur about that? What's interesting about them? It's all rubbish, mass produced and advertised in a way to make people believe that it 'might be worth something in a few years'. It never is (apart from the odd error that genuinely is rare). Get your modern coins from circulation, don't actually buy them! It's been like that since the coin collecting boom in the 60s, when some mint official somewhere thought it would be a great way of making money, if they could sell 'collectable' coins direct to collectors. So they mark the most obscure occassions with a special coin, and in rolls the cash. The stamp and banknote people do exactly the same. I've slagged off modern coins elsewhere. Don't waste your money.

It's assumed in Peck that the proof is always sharply struck (which is no doubt the case), but there is no mention of the 'I' pointing in Peck. I'll have to clarify that a bit in the next one if possible. Does anyone know if the 'I' pointing variety also occurs in the proof coin?

Every single one on ebay is usually a polished die....just like most 1951's are frosted proofs and 1935's are always raised edge type because people think that it means the writing around the edge of the obv! Bafoons, the lot of 'em.

Some of the 1960 polished die crowns are better than others. If yours is very nice then it may have actually been sold in America and not bashed about to buggery on the boat on the way back to Blighty. The chances of it really being a proof are very remote.

Then it's probably a polished die one (i.e. the dies were polished before striking, but the blanks were not).

Normally I like long legs, but those bloody Daddy-longlegs are my worst fear. I think it has to do with the fact that as a child my mum always used to go mental when one flew in the house. It's the way all their legs hang behind as they fly, and the fact that they seem to have no idea where they want to fly!

Yes, that's an expensive one in UNC (over £500) but you'd need an expert to verify it truly is UNC.

A lot of money for bronze. I'd be worried that a slight loss of lustre would wipe hundreds off the value. I see it was ended early, after just a few hours. I expect someone made a big offer.

Hello custard1966, yep, I´ll give you that one, you are quite right but ask the average collector to pick out the 1926 Modified from two photos and I think the results would be suprising. Hi Gary, You're absolutely right. I'm pretty sure I picked up that tip from somewhere - perhaps Michael Gouby's site, though it's not there at present. It's intriguing that the most obvious difference doesn't seem to have been spotted by any of the major authors. I've found an ME 1926 Penny! VG or perhaps NF for the reverse.

If you want another German commemorative coin Oli, I have the most amazing 1871 Prussian Sieges Thaler. Deeply toned prooflike (or possibly even proof) surfaces and sharp devices. A wonderful example of a coin that is pretty common in average conditions. £25 if you want it.

The thing is, I wanted to keep the forum separate to some degree, that's why it doesn't look like the rest of the site. During my current redesign I'll probably do something to get more people looking at the coins and accessories via this area.

Have you actually been to www.predecimal.com and had a look around? I really must get more people looking around and not just think the forum is all there is.
