  1. UK/Europe £1.00 (EUR1.43). USA/world US$2.50 airmail.
  2. I have a few of these beautiful posthumous George V Half Rupees available for only £6.50 on the website (in the specials area) but....Wait for it....£5.00 to Forum members. They catalogue around £15-16 UNC. Email me: cp@predecimal.com, or use the Personal messenger thing.
  3. I think Geoff T is your man, over to you Geoff!
  4. Clearly a dot there, but the coins looks around Fine, so if Custard is correct, then possibly worth a fiver. Unless you can find someone that really wants it.
  5. Yes, I'd be interested to hear what you find.
  6. Thankyou for the suggestions. I think right now the people that buy from me are not all that intent on obtaining obscure varieties, but certainly in the future I think I will need in depth books like those.
  7. Wow, very advanced Copper/Bronze talk! I'm afraid my library doesn't yet go that far.
  8. It may be slightly more interesting for some collectors, but I wouldn't say it gives it Edward VIII status! In fact you may find because of the flaw it won't be as desired, unless it's a major cock up. Welcome in here anyway, and please do post as much as you like.
  9. Perhaps not the best coin to try to sell with 0 feedback!
  10. I have a pretty low quality digital camera, so at this stage I always scan them, which is of course usually ok for modern milled regular shaped coins with low relief. I scan them usually at 300dpi and find I have to brighten the copper/bronze coins when they are not lustrious. I have trouble with high relief items, like the ancient greek coins and some medals. All the basic info I have, is to get a good camera with as many mega pixels as you can and mount it on a tripod to keep it steady. My friend Mark Rosner was fab at taking pictures of coins, and they can be seen here: http://www.predecimal.com/forsale/choicecoins.htm Unfortunately he is no longer with us, to share his secrets.
  11. You need a copy of ESC Sylvester, I just started a topic about it.
  12. English Silver Coinage - since 1649 By P. Alan Rayner, published by Seaby, London. For all of you with an advanced interest in British milled silver coinage, this is a must have book for dealers and collectors alike. It contains illustrations of most obscure pattern coins and of course all the main coinage that was used. It also gives a rarity scale for evey single known date, variety and pattern for every single Silver British coin from 1649 right up to and including Decimal. It also includes a very detailed history of British milled silver by reign, from then to now, including lots of info about who designed what and all the goings on at the mint during that time. Learn about Octorinos, 12 Groats, Predecimal Tenpences and lots of other coins you had no idea existed! I'll post here if I can get supplied with these books.
  13. dta, That's a very good point....They are completely rubbish at responding to emails!!! I have asked a few times about why I don't get my commission and I sometimes get a reply after a week, and I'm still waiting for a reply to my reply! In fact because they're so crap I am considering stopping promoting their products on my site, as it isn't very rewarding in more ways than one.... I asked how they would feel to being sent the results of this forum about how they could improve the package and have heard nothing yet. Absolutely terrible. I'm talking myself out of even trying to help them fast.
  14. I know the kind you mean....A talented chap re modelled all the monarchs since the Victoria veiled head (his initials are under the bust) to be featured on a set of commonwealth coins for an African country I believe. But they didn't get used, and instead a series of pattern coins were made, like the one you have, in 2000 using his very good portraits. In fact a woman contacted me once who thought she had a pattern GVI double florin, but it was one of that range.
  15. You must be joking! I saw a trial large lead Shilling on ebay yesterday. Ugly looking large thing.

    Coin News

Yes, it is a difficult title to get sometimes. I think because the shops that stock it normally have most of the copies reserved for customers. I know WHS do have it, and have purchased it there myself. You get a free copy sent if you go to http://www.tokenpublishing.com
  17. Yes, that's right. It was the Golden Hind. And if you have an Edward VIII Halfpenny, please put it my way!

    Coin News

Hello custard, I have an ad in Coin News and have previously had an add in Stamp and coin mart too. The people at Coin News are really very nice (actually Carol is quite attractive too ) and they have a large readership, most of which are serious coin collectors. Now from my point of view, it's all very well people serching the web, finding me, reading all the interesting stuff and then leaving! What I really need of course is for people to actually buy things, and I know for a fact that because of my ad in Coin News and on the Coin News website, that people do see me and buy things. In fact every serious numismatist and dealer that I know buys that magazine, so in the trade, it is hugely Important. On a personal level I also still believe that a magazine, ie printed paper is much more readable than a website, and a little more convenient too. You will also find dealers in there that have no online presence (or a laughable one!), and Coin News have a nice looking website, which shows they are embracing that side of things too. I think the internet, and magazines like that can both thrive simultaneously. Hmmm, well the 3 pages in Stamp and Coin Mart about coins are all very well, but it is really a stamp collectors mag primarily. The ad I had in there had a zero response. I'm not aware of any other worthy titles.
  19. Ok. Contact details on the main site, please send to the German address.
  20. Hmmmm, a bit blurry, but I would say that it looks like a repro to me. I'm sure a couple of other members will have opinions too. If you can send it to me and enclose £5.00 to cover the recorded postage back to you and a couple of quid for myself, I should be able to tell you for sure Thanks,
  21. Right you are then. You may find scanning it works better, if you have a scanner.
  22. You should be able to post a picture here using the 'You may attach a file to this message.' option when you post. I know that reproductions of that kind of thing exist, and they are usually crude. The real thing should be real silver, and the fact that it is clean and shiny is not good news even if it is a real one. Need to see a picture really.
  23. I think the numismatic term 'Uncirculated', although it does have a slightly different literal meaning is just fine as it is. The confussion comes from people trying to sell coins that know nothing about the subject or how to grade them. They are either people that haven't taken anything on board at all, or are after a quick few quid (and rarely successfully). It does of course lead to you wasting your time looking at crap on ebay that's been mis described in the title, but ebay make money regardless, so you'll always see crap, wrongly described in the title...Ebay don't care about wasting serious collectors time, as long as they get their commission, nor are they expert enough to alter or take off dodgy/time wasting listings. That is the problem with ebay, they are non experts, as nor are most of their sellers. But I imagine it's like that with every specialist item field sold on ebay. I have been thinking for a while about starting up a purely coin online auction house. The software is easy enough to buy and set up on a server, and I would ensure that no rubbish was ever listed. Unfortunately I don't have a big enough audience to really do that with any success. Anyway, in an ideal world, 'Uncirculated' stays, and the ridiculous sellers offering tosh, go!
  24. Thanks for the info Geoff, But my Dad is still very much alive and kicking and as the date is 3 days out from my birthday, it isn't too important to me, really! Ok, so what do these usually go for then? Just so I know how securely to keep it. Chris
  25. Once you pop, you just can't stop! Glad you liked it, thankyou, and thankyou to everyone for taking part.
