  1. Oli!!! I'm afraid I cannot allow you to recommend websites that among other things, encourage and teach pickpocketing, inform you about legal mushroom induced highs and try to be offensive to vegetarians, Goths, Rich people, stupid people, nerds and in fact generally to pretty much everyone. Another one of your recommendations also tried to force a dialer download. I hate dialer downloads and would rather not be indirectly responsible for causing someone a huge phone bill. Ok so this is the area of the 'Coin Forum' where you are free to write about any other subjects, but I'm afraid there are limits. This forum is an extention of my business, and I have to try to keep people happy to some degree. While I found some of those things on your recommended sites quite funny and agreed with many of the points made, I'm afraid I can't let you list them here. If any members or passers by to this forum under the age of 18 (or any age for that matter!) visited those websites, they may be shocked enough to not buy things from me!! If people want to know your favourite websites, they can contact you through the personal messenger or via MSN.
  2. Ah we all knew that, the date's not even in the right place for a florin.
  3. One of them was 1883 NF with better rev, and it was in the last newsletter. £8.00 to you. (was £11.00 in newsletter) The other is not much better than poor, and dated 1859, so a quite early one. You can have it for £1.20, how's that?
  4. For those active members that actually read these things, and that didn't register and then leave, never to be seen again!.... If you had your 'Get added to my mailing list' box ticked in your personal profile area, then today (20th February 2004) you have been added to my mailing list and will receive subsequent newsletters via email. The existing newsletters can be read by going here: http://www.predecimal.com/newsletter/ And selecting the htm files that are named first, second... etc. To be removed, either tell me in this area or simply select the unsubscribe option on your first newsletter, and you will never hear from me again.
  5. Well there we are, thanks for sorting that one out mish. Did you see my list of condor tokens in the British area? You have the book on those too don't you?
  6. That's not a lot to go on Andy, you may have to register and post an image of it. At one stage the Kings/Queens of England stated that they were King/Queen of France too, as England had Northern French territories, but the Fran probably means it's French, we need more details.
  7. I asked Mr Nicholls if I could perhaps offer his cabinets for sale on the website. But he refused me, and said that because of sometimes unreliable wood availability he prefers to deal with the customers personally. I was hoping I could advertise them and get him to ship direct. And I know i'd sell some! Nevermind, I'll have to find another cabinet maker to offer a luxury range at some point. Not that there's anything wrong with the SAFE/Lighthouse stuff of course.
  8. I have this Godless Florin for £95.00, but that would take you almost a year to save up for! I do have 2 lower grade gothic florins William, are you looking out for any more?
  9. Now just a minute.. I'm supposed to be bringing collectors together from around the globe, not re-uniting old chums! That is a huge coincendence though, isn't it. I can't believe it.
  10. Don't you boys go out with girls, try to pass off laxitive chocolate to your mates and worry about your hair? It doesn't matter to me what you do! Very well done and do keep us posted. With what you're learning, you soon won't need to borrow online articles for your posts here
  11. Hark at old man Olli!
  12. Well you're obviously all far to educated for me...I'll get me coat! Best I could ever manage was the odd Led Zep or Pink Floyd (William, ask your Dad!) track on electric guitar (with the solos mind).
  13. That makes you certainly the youngest, and I'm afraid Geoff, you may well be the oldest! Not that 48 is any age, of course.
  14. Hello William, If the volume of Victorian coins you've bought in the past from me is anything to go by then you've probably got more than most people in a 50 mile radius of your house! Everybody: Young William has been a good customer of mine for some time, so look after him.
  15. Well if you do find one more reputable than Predecimal.com they will probably charge you an arm and a leg to even breathe anywhere near your list! If not, they may make up for their time by offering you very little for them, in the hope they can get them cheap. Are you anywhere near Swanage? I must visit Mother soon, and could kill 2 birds with one stone (so to speak). Regardless, very good luck.
  16. You're welcome. Do you have a list of these coins as a computer file that you can email me? That would be the next step. If not, can you create one containing as much detail as possible, with the rough conditions of each coin (poor - excellent, for example)? I can certainly glance at it and give you an opinion, but to attempt to individually value each one, I would charge my small fee. You see I get a lot of people with long lists contacting me, and most of the time the coins are rubbish and not at all exciting for me to look at. What kinds of boxes are the Elizabeth II coin sets in? We are all very helpful here, and doesn't it sound so much nicer with the background information.
  17. Yes, especially when it isn't offset by any positives! I got an 1868 RRITANNIAR error threepence today off ebay.de Looks nice enough.
  18. Is that so. Well it was my first in the UK, and that's probably why Richard Varnham (long established London/Kent dealer) who I was helping, had never heard of him!
  19. I feel a little better because it was probably done at the time. Or at least made into a brooch at the time, so could never have been saved!
  20. That's what I have to battle all the time! Whenever I offer a fair price for some old coins, the owner will often exclaim...'But they're 200 years old they must be worth a fortune!' Nooooooooooo, you can get 400BC greek coins for £30! People associate age with value, but for something made 100-1000 years ago in very large quantities, and that no one has ever thrown away, that just isn't the case. At least not with the worn ones. Only the very best 5% are really collectable.
  21. I had an AVF W&M tin farthing on the side recently, did you see it? It sold quite quickly for £150.
  22. Was he at the Bloomsbury Coin fair the other week? I really must meet all these well known names.
  23. I thought about Anchor money too, but they normally had the amount expressed in Roman Numerals, not as a fraction. I bet the asker of the original question never looks in here again, to see all out efforts and we'll never know any more!
  24. It's not done, I'm afraid. At most you could perhaps lightly brush it with a dry tooth brush to remove loose dirt. Water does copper no good in the long run, and polish will make it look awful. And yes, it is Geroge III, and should be 34mm to be a penny.
  25. You hang out with Colin Cooke do you Geoff? I've had enormous trouble in the past trying to pass off Crowns, 47-67 florins and in fact all kinds of Predecimal currency at banks. I think I succeded some time ago with florins because I was able to convince them that they were legal as 10p until 1993, and that they would take large 10p's surely! And I get people too that seem to want to upgate their 25p coins to £5 face value.
