Spink prices are often high, especially compared to ebay, and unless the coin was £160 from a reputable dealer, who knows exactly what grade it is. £160 seems fair enough for UNC, perhaps high for EF. So if it's in the middle you're probably ok. So that's quite dodgy then, a copy of a certificate and he has lots of them! Don't pay more than the coins value which is £85 in EF. Vicky Sovereigns are funny things, they start at £50ish, sometimes about £70 for VF, £90 for EF, and then they shoot up to £300+ for UNC! But if it's less than a perfect UNC it's not worth anywhere near the top price. I wouldn't pay more than £60 for it personally, frankly I wouldn't buy anything sold as a novelty item. Yes, for a customer. I also had a Victorian 1898 Half Crown that I sent back, because it had an ugly blob of black toning on the otherwise perfect reverse which bothered me for and 'MS65' (or 66 I can't remember). I couldn't see that in the picture, nor was it mentioned in the description.

Yes and just to add to that the short story of the plain edge proof George IV Half Crown I bought, which turned out to be a milled edge proof, because the slab made the edge to hard to see! There's an awful lot of hype on Certified Coins and it's all aimed an ameteurs and investors that think they can make a few bob quickly, and without first gaining the proper knowledge in a subject. Personally I don't think a consistant profit can be made within any investment area that the investor himself knows little about.

Exactly right Oli. Nevermind how they are 'Novelty packed' (and i've told you about that before BJofW) at the end of the day they're really only worth 'coin' value in my eyes.... And probably most other people that are slightly in the know.

Coin fairs are something that tends to be very under-represented online. Some are mentioned here and there, but frankly they're marketed badly. I don't know about things down there in Somerset, but if you can get to London today, before 5pm there's a massive coin fair at the Holiday Inn, Bloomsbury. Yes, it's still lead sealed as they were new. None of them were airtight, but all the coins certainly are as new. Where are you located? I'll just be in the UK myself from Feb 11-17th, but I could leave them with someone for you to pick up on in March. I don't mind taking them to you if you're on the way somewhere.

You should try and get the 1972, as they're the only British coins issued with that date except for the 1972 crown which also came out as a separate commemorative. I now have the 1950, '51 and 53. I rest my case! Cows are comical, people can't stop themselves making cow jokes, and it's so easy and yet so effective. No wonder certain religions have sacred cows.

You can't see the cow? It's a big cow nose, as it almost sniffed the camera. The black area in the upper left is the black nose and there's an ear with a small tag in it, on the udder side

I've changed my avatar because I quite like comical looking cows. In fact, I've liked comical looking cows as long as I can remember, but it only just occured to me that a comical cow would look pretty good as an avatar. The cow in the picture is '929' from near the Strangford loch, Co. Down NI. I was staying once in a farmhouse behind his field and I took my camera to search for comical cows. Out of the entire herd in the field, 929 was the only cow to show me any interest, in fact the others all backed away when I went anywhere near them. So as a change from Dee Snider, you'll now have to get used to me as a friendly cow instead. (929 was of course, the number on the plastic tag attaced to her ear)
