  1. What is a Gold sovereign Gulf war set? Whatever it is, if it contains a full mint condition Sovereign, then yes £60.99 is pretty fair. My advice: Don't be fooled by pretty packaging, or the fact that a coin once belonged to a soldier. I would image those facts would be unlikely to ever make the coin worth more that it would be if it was just a loose coin. If you collect military things, then by all means, collect Sovereigns issued to soldiers that served in wars, but if you want to collect sovereigns, find respectable dealers and buy them loose they'll probably work out cheaper. At the moment a Sovereign is worth about £53 for the gold content, so that's the minimum thoeretically that it should be worth. Gold prices have a major affect on the common and newer Sovereign prices. I have a few: http://www.predecimal.com/forsale/gold.htm
  2. Oh dear, that's a George IV Crown held by a crocodile clip!!! (and it looks better than 'good') Someone email the seller! I hope it isn't one of mine, i've sold a few of those lately.
  3. Phil, The easiest wat to tell the difference is by size. The penny is about 35mm, the twopenny (which is huge) is about 41mm. I have a couple of each for sale, on www.predecimal.com and there were a few in my last newsletter. As a forum member, I'll be please to offer you a little discount.
  4. They were digital photos of that one.
  5. Thanks for pointing out the error, I've changed it now. I think that's already a great price, but £90 to you JMD.
  6. Those of you that aren't subscribed, (fools! ) Newsletter No.10 is here: http://www.predecimal.com/newsletter/number10.htm Almost 300 coins to start with, and they seem to be selling well.
  7. Yes that's the one, it's Westair
  8. Oh dear, yes that's a modern repro without a doubt.
  9. The President told me that Peck left some out that were too worn, even if he was sure they were what he thought they were! Regardless of what was in, and what was out, there is no doublt that some little mistakes were made. Who's doing the next one?
  10. Spink is not about varieties really JMD. Spink does an excellent job of covering over 2000 years of coinage. My book already contains far more varieties for the modern coins! Just imagine, a properly comprehensive book on the British coins of the last 200+ years with up to date values. Nothing like it exists. For those of you that don't follow things in here, here's a plug: http://www.predecimal.com/books/ccgb2005framed.htm
  11. I was just contacted by the President of the London Numismatic Society, who got one of my fliers through the British Numismatic Society, and wanted one of my books. We got talking about varieties, and he was actually in the same room as C Wilson Peck when he wrote his bible! This man knows about varieties that were not included in the book because although Peck was sure, the examples were too worn and he felt they could not be included just in case! Since then, he's published papers, and really knows some super advanced stuff. He lives in Kent, not far from SE London actually, where I once lived, and he invited me along as his guest to the next London Numismatic society meeting (but I can't go, it's in early feb) He said he'll get the book, and give me a call so we can talk about what should be added. He even knows about decimal varieties (and has a 1983 New pence 2p) He said that there has never been a book that lists all the varieties for copper/bronze and silver and I said I'd like to be the first to publish a complete book if he's willing to help. CCGB2008 will be double the size at this rate!
  12. Make sure you show me Livia's bum when I'm round in Feb Millimoo!
  13. Yes it does doesn't it! That's even funnier than my Offa joke.
  14. Yes, hopefully it's settled down. The host people (and I know them personally by now!) said that someone else with another website on the same server had probably installed some dodgy code, and it bought the whole lot down!
  15. That's more difficult. How do you pronounce Stycca?
  16. I wish I'd kept my mouth shut now. You see, none of them are in any particular order! Let me deal with your Nazi coins first!
  17. Yes I have, but I'm not really passionate about them. I just have them from collecting as a kid, and the decimals from collections I've bought in the past. I don't offer them for sale because the time it would take to scan and list them all would be huge, and none of them are particularly valuable. Something for the future, and certainly something to offer if the UK should ever go EURO (which at the moment looks very unlikely)
  18. So you won't be making an Offa? (Sorry, couldn't resist it, such a silly little joke, but I must admit when it came to me I was quite tickled)
  19. Yes, I just got the same message for the first time. The SQL database that all this lot is stored on is called britishcoins, and if the front end is not able to find it, it would probably indicate that my hosts are having problems and are not able to serve the database. Hopefully they will be temporary.
  20. Thanks for your message Miljan, Please DO NOT add your message to all the other bloody posts in the forum, I've just deleted 7 of them! In here will do, and I've also emailed you.
  21. What are you playing at Miljan? Does this look like a Roman coin related topic? I received all 3 of your messages sent via the website, and have replied to the first one.
  22. I don't mean to be picky, but at that time, and right up to the 1920's, Walthamstow was part of Essex. My Grandad was born there in 1900. Spot on with the Brutus partof course!
  23. Grear news! Can I ask which branch it was in? Email me the book shop man details when you can. The book chain Ottakars should also be stocking it as standard in their 130 branches very soon. The pestering people, and buying your own books seems to pay off!
  24. I think I basically understood what you were writing, despite the fact that it was composed liek a text message! It's a Diamond Jubilee medal, not really a coin. It shows the Queen as she was when she became Queen, and the Queen as she looked in 1897. If it's pretty average it'll just be worth a pounf or two. I think we've talked about these before in the forum, as they are a popular query.
  25. Unfortunately they don't do Blau Peter in Gemany! In fact, the only English speaking channel (half English) was turned off on December 31st! Now I have to get a Satalite dish to pick up anything English.
