  1. I won't be using Western Union again after that Russian fiasco, and even if it is genuine (and I have heard about scams along those lines) I wouldn't have the time to go sneding and receiving money, and I'd have to drive half hour to the nearest Western Union office. himaksim6days, what's your ebay id? Who are you? What's your phone number? Address? If you don't provide those details, you're probably not at all genuine.
  2. It's difficult to tell with GVF or below somtimes. If the toned coin was darkened it should have traces of black toning in and around the lower areas (usually).
  3. Alright, I know, I know! Don't bloody rub it in!
  4. Ok, that's settled then, Juan gets it. I'll close this topic. HPJ can tell us about his other half in another area!
  5. Look on the Spine Juan, they're all 'Double T' variety!
  6. The ticket is only for one normal member of the public person, but there would be nothing stopping you bringing the other half and paying for her. It's only £4 to get in. HPJ, you have another half?
  7. I've been sent a complimentary admission ticket to the February 5th London Coin Fair (Holiday Inn, Bloomsbury). I don't think I'll be able to attend... And even if I do attend I always get it free anyway because I share a table with a friend. So who wants it?
  8. But it's not really the toning to look out for. It's the fields, they must be completely reflective like a mirror. There should be no bloom or ghosting, just completely flat, completely reflective fields.
  9. Yes, it may well have been Oli. And you're right, I would have called it a proof if it were one. Later bronze proofs are easy to distinguish (more so than some Victorian and earlier proofs). JMD, you need a proof to act as a reference. I Have some 1970 proofs I think.
  10. Trust you JMD! I'll see that one is changed next time.
  11. Ok, but you'll have to be a member to post pictures. I've responded to your email about the sixpence, but would prefer to converse in here.
  12. Try this: http://www.predecimal.com/forsale/maundy/m.../maundy1901.jpg
  13. Looks like an 1826 to me, I copied the picture and made it brighter. I could be wrong.
  14. Yes, and I've attached it to this message. It could be an error, it could have somehow been smoothed down after leaving the mint. Either way, the side that does have a design on it is so awful, I doubt you'll find collectors falling over themselves to own it. To weigh it accurately would be interesting, as it might proove one way of the other. Send it to me if you like, I can measure the thickness and weight pretty accurately.
  15. Was there another later Hercules? That's more of a Dutch Naval Question, than a coin related one!
  16. How big is it as a jpg? email it to cp@predecimal.com
  17. Oli (and anyone else with interest), See here: http://www.predecimal.com/forsale/maundysets.htm
  18. You'd better join and post a scan.
  19. Thanks everyone for making this the biggest British coin forum in the world (as far as I can see!). Have nice Christmas's and if I don't see you, all the best for 2005 and I'll speak to you then.
  20. Depends on the weather. I had trouble getting down the road last night, god knows what february will be like. And I have a new book coming out early feb (a revised Roman Base Metal Coin book) so I'll probably need to stick around and talk some people into buying it.
  21. Gallus looks like a big monkey with hair all over his face :s
  22. You're more than welcome to send it to me. The book will be £5.95 like the last, and a CD of the author approved version is on its way to the Proofreader. I have penciled in publication for Feb 5th, to give plenty of time to get a nice cover done.
  23. You say that now, but it is quite natural to move further back as you gain confidence. And many ancient coins are not expensive.
  24. Like who? Amazon are stocking them, and getting them from Gardners books (I think) Ottakers have them too. WH Smith online will soon have some. Abe books have had previous editions, but are not showing the latest yet. Hopefully their records will soon be updated.
  25. You could have that one for bullion value William, which is around £55.00.
