  1. I was chemically stripping the copper from steel pennies back in the mid 90's while at college!
  2. Very well done Syl, that's blindin'. My friends mum is a head at a primary school in Blackheath, in fact she was also my teacher when I was 10. Her daughter (the lovely Ruth) is also training to be a teacher, so if you fancy doing something down there I could certainly put in a good word.
  3. Do you know for sure that the picture is AT? Just because the seller is selling AT making stuff doesn't mean he used an AT coin in the picture.
  4. For those of you that aren't subscribed, newletter No.11 is here: http://www.predecimal.com/newsletter/number11.htm Be quick, over £250 worth already sold, and I'm taking them to this saturdays London coin fair.
  5. Register please Steve, tell us about who you really are etc instead of just copied sales blurb, and I'll consider putting the link back to your website. Please also consider buying a proper domain name and webspace as 'tripod' ad laden space looks very ameteur in my opinion, and would probably mean a very low visitor conversion rate. Please do email me if you would like to place a more formal ad on this forum.
  6. Actually, I was planning to 'revitalise' that one in todays newsletter. There is a little bit of fluff that got caught under the plastic when it was made, and it's caused a tone spot on the rev. I've mentioned that in the newsletter. If you still want it Kuhli, I'll send it to you.
  7. The 1806 one would never have been worth very much even before polishing. The 1742 would have probably been worth about £10, and now it's probably about £2. If they were badly corroded with green verdigris before you polished them, then they were not worth much to start with either.
  8. Yes, those have been harshly polished haven't they. What a pity. Please tell us you didn't polish them yourself RUUUD?
  9. There are none 'missing' it's the 3 coin set, and no, there is no £5.
  10. You can have a 3 coin set for £580
  11. If I buy and sell that 1989 Gold set I'll let you have a virtual Predecimal.com voucher!
  12. What Sylvester was trying to say, is that all denominations had VICTORIA DG BRITT REG FD written on them, so it's imposible for us to even begin to tell what it is!
  13. Can't you post yet Dave, have your not received a confirmation email? Regarding your little facsimile, and being brutally honest, you'll find that marketed correctly, you can sell almost anything to the general public! I don't really feel that a little silver replica with a slight diference will exactly sell like hot cakes to collectors though. Search the web for Moneyer Dave Greenhalgh, he makes silver modern hammered coins (the old fashioned way), perhaps you could ask him how many he sells.
  14. First you need to register an account. Then there are two ways of posting pictures: 1) Attach to the message - this uses up lots of bandwidth. 2) Use a hosting service like photobucket.com. Actually, I've got another deal on hosting now, so it's £200 per year and that includes up to 5gb per month bandwidth, so feel free to use the forum for a few more images from now on.
  15. I sit possible the seller bought those coins and is now selling them?
  16. No
  17. 1957 - Bullion, a little more if it's in perfect condition, but I'd certainly only pay bullion for it, and hope to sell it for bullion +10% (or maybe 15%)
  18. The state quarters could perhaps be compared to the Churchill crowns, 1977 Crowns etc...Commemorative coins for the masses, none of which will ever be valuable. On the positive side though, anything out of the ordinary can get people interested in coin collecting.
  19. Don't anyone even think about bidding on the 1934 Crown (Wybrit!). Everyone knows I have a customer for those, and he really wants this one! Leave it to me or i'll get nasty
  20. Yes, I would imagine it would be very unlikely that you would get them into the uk without customs charging you an import tax. The odd coin you could cenceal about your person, but 100+ with cases etc will be much harder. The loose sovereigns should of course be kept in separate packages right now, or they bash each other and that won't do them any good at all. For the worn or later sovereigns you should at least get bullion value for them, and if I had that kind of money spare at the moment, i'd be glad to purchase them. Some of the better grade sovereigns will be worth more, but personally if you're looking for a quick sale you can't go far wrong selling them at bullion value (or a few % less). The effort involved in sorting out the better ones and selling them separately would be a drag, and many are likely to just be worth a little over bullion. Shield back Victorian coins are generally bought at more than bullion. I don't like turning sellers away, but if I were you, I'd remove the shield back coins, and high grade victorian and accept melt price for the rest where you are now...Unless they are all of a very very high standard you probably won't be doing yourself out of much. The more modern stuff isn't really my cup of tea. It's difficult to sell, and generally on the open market they tend to sell at around 70% of book (although some are more sought after). I'd offer bullion plus a certain percentage, but certainly would fall over myself for it. I do have a regular buyer for modern proof/gold issues though.
  21. And if you're in full time education, I have some money for you for travel expenses. http://www.predecimal.com/forum/index.php?...=ST&f=31&t=1411
  22. What weight is it? The Coin is 9ct Gold. That's just mind blowingly stupid. The fineness somehow is an accurate measure of the weight, no matter what the size is! Why are there fools to buy that kind of rubbish. It looks like someone's squeezed a disc of gold through a laser printer.
  23. Yes, it's a Netherlands cent, non colonial.
