Some may remember that I had a small batch of these a while back. I have one left and in my clear out it has to go. Inevitably it is the least good of the batch and the lustre has broken down in a few patches, but it is still pretty good. First sensible offer by PM, to include postage, gets it. Paddy

Hi All, This is not about coins. Back in May in this year I bought a couple of lots, cognac and liquar via Saleroom from a auctioneer which I won't name for now, its in Scotland. After confirming my payments I waited several weeks but no update so I contacted the auctioneer and was told there were problem with the courier and that he will personally get it done. A couple of weeks later heard nothing and the same response, weeks later nothing and the reply I got was that he will issue me a refund instead, that was 4 weeks ago. I tried Saleroom but they say there is nothing they could do. I tried emailing the auctioneer for update and phoneing him but got not reply. I tried their facebook asking about it again no reply. Today I find that the auctioneer has blocked me accessing his facebook. I dont know what financial situation they are in but it does seem they are trying to scam me. In one of the phone calls when he was still answering me who I believe is the owner sounded distress going on about child maintenance support and that is why he weren't able to deal with my outstanding order in time. Payment was made via "pay.sumup.io" using my debit card. Any advice on how to get my money back"

Sounds about right. I do sense though (more generally) that elitists tend to see populists as somehow “tricking” the masses (rather than giving them what they actually want); just as populists tend to see the elitists as implicated in a premeditated conspiracy (rather than incompetence). I think the one underestimates the intelligence of the other; and the other overestimates.

Trump knew which buttons to push to make himself seem populist, stoking the fears of the target base, recognising it as a tried and tested method of aligning the masses to the end goal. He still uses China to enrich himself though. So I would agree with you that Trump is populist, even though he himself really isn't. Anyway, this thread has digressed from Russians to Trump, although you could argue that they are one and the same. Enjoy your Saturday everyone.

I usually rely on others to sort these out for me, but as no one seems to be replying, I will add my thoughts: I think the 1* obverse is clear - the lack of knot with the beaded border is clear. Not so sure about the reverse. The halfpenny website mentions A and A# , not A* - was it A# you meant? See https://halfpennyvarieties.wordpress.com/victoria-reverses/ A close up of the shield might help - looking for the extra incuse line for A rather than A#. Variations in the position of the 0 in the date are mentioned for both, so that alone is not an identifier. In any case the website suggests that in either case they are not that scarce. Or maybe I have missed the point with the A*?

Trump is a different animal altogether. He's the world's greatest living con man, and he's played a blinder with the red parts of the American public. His bottom line is self-aggrandizement and his own pocket, and would literally say anything if those stumping up the cash were willing, or stupid enough, to pay his price. That's not to say that other American politicians are much better, but once you're in bed with Fat Anthony Salerno, the smell never leaves you.

I bought a couple of coins from them in the past all relatively common and nothing super expensive, obviousely I would never know if the provence could be trusted but that goes with other dealers too.
