Quick update, and thanks to @Sword, @Paddy, @Rob and @wlewisiii for the advice back in January. I went with Paddy's option 4 crossed with option 1: the better pieces listed singly, the rest in three job lots, and the storage kit sold separately as Sword suggested. Just one last point, last night my response to Peter was in response to Peter saying he thinks Im basicially wasting my time looking for coins nobody is interested in, and its only fair I repsond with the facts and my opinion. That clearly put coinery over the edge but its me who is instigating, baiting etc Had Peter of not shared his view on my research and collecting style, I would not feel obliged to share mine in light of this discovery. In respect to your comment about being unhappy with the flood of images, where as Michael was thankful, I would not feel obliged to respond if that statement wasn't made previously. Can we not keep things amicable and coin centric?

I'm sorry that it felt overwhelming. I mean that sincerely aswell. Can you appreciate I just got carried away with the excitment of the discovery, and maybe should of kept it a bit more precise. Worth noting this whole process, the dos and donts, what order of process, who to speak to, what I can and cant say, its all completely new to me. The analysis and the asociated research is a steep learning curve without any help or silence on the matter.. Its hard enough as it is discovering an unrecorded variety, then add in everything else! Rather than risk leaving out a piece of information that maybe valuable or important, I tried my best to include as much info as possible. Can you see my logic? I actually sent Michael 11 images, and he thanked me for the "excellent images" in his own words. Coinery last night was chucking around all kinds of insults and assumptions. Im just here to learn about coins, share my findings, and learn from all of you as much as I can. Il take this opourtunity to formaly apologize to anyone I have offended along the journey so far. That includes coinery aswell.. To mention my social skills, he insulted me and yet Im the one apologising. Thats not juvenille. I would like the focus of this thread to be about the question in hand, the discovery! A post-1864 unrecorded error letter variety is a significant discovery.. Rather than celebrating I feel like I have done something wrong.

The 2009 should be colour throughout but some of the silver coins can certainly appear like greyscale. Give me a few sample page numbers and I'll compare.

My 2009 first edition has some colour pictures it's true, but the majority are black and white. Is this new edition all in colour, or is it the same as the 2009?

I found maybe 3 or 4 as a schoolboy in the late 60s, and only because few people knew about it (an issue of Coin Monthly in 1968 first drew my attention to it). Sadly my examples are in average circulated condition - high grade examples seem few and far between.

Respecting the privacy of a personal email exchange with Michael Gouby is basic etiquette, not manipulation. Out of courtesy, I would never publish a specialist's private confirmation of an unrecorded variety without asking their permission first. Furthermore, Michael invited me to contact Richard, which I did this morning via email, hence me saying I have sent an email.... You are resorting to personal insults simply because a newcomer's analysis turned out to be correct. The 'gatekeeping clique' mentality is no match for objective facts. A genuine variety discovery should be a positive for the hobby, not a source of hostility. I invited objective discussion, not a debate on personalities. Since your input brings nothing but toxicity to the thread, you are now on my ignore list

I think you’ll find the 🤷‍♂️ was about a frustration that you baited the forum for weeks, only to share a point of interest with a private message! I think a unrecorded confirmed overstrike variety on a penny post 1864 is an important find which will surely generate interest?

The Standard Guide to Grading British Coins has been in print since 2009, initially as a colour hardback and then since 2014 as a black and white (greyscale) paperback. Some have criticised the black and white images over the years, and rightly so, but re-printing in colour was very costly and I always felt the price of the finished product was too high. But I always felt it deserved to be in colour again, so now, for the first time in about 13 years, a colour version of The Standard Guide to Grading British Coins is available. I found my first 1946 ONE' penny today, in the rummage box at Dervaird Farm, Glenluce. It was obverse up on the bottom, looking like it might not have been looked at in years. One of those sublime moments. In view of your message above, I have to thank you for making it an even more desirable coin than it might otherwise have been😉

Update on the imminent next chapter; On other forums, I have received nothing but positive feedback about this coin from respected members whose judgment I value. In fact, to date, not a single person has challenged it. Across these platforms, potentially thousands of people have seen the coin by now, and no one has come forward with an alternative technical explanation to my theory—or even attempted to do so. Ultimately, individual opinions do not matter at this stage; the coin is now out of my hands. The entire matter is being approached objectively from both a historical and a scientific perspective.
