1875 Narrow Date Penny

Recommended Posts

This is a coin I just purchased from Stephen Hill, at the New York International Numismatic Convention, in NYC. It is a 1875 Narrow Date Penny. I'll send the Obverse in the next post, since the file size is too big to add both to the same post.

Another beautiful penny Bob. You're putting together quite a collection!

Much nicer than mine which, for comparison, is:

Would that be Freeman 80? Just testing myself...

That's the one! Dies 8 + H

Thumb barely extends beyond StA X

Sea extends to but does not cross LC

Narrow spaced date

I'm learning!

I need better eyes :)

I need a loupe to even see the date on G-V farthings!

I need a loupe to see any date on any coin.

Gorgeous, flawless specimen, Bob, with a supremely attractive golden toned lustre.

One of the top 10 for that year, probably.

It's so easy to forget that these coins are nearly 140 year's old when you see one looking like that!

I admired the pictures for quite some time! Lovely coin!

Mine is passable, but yours is a terrific strike. If you compare the definition in Britannia's fingers, for example, yours is streets ahead.

Azda,

You have a good eye! The colons you refer to are as a result of a "filled" die. They are both there, but appear to have been "broken" off, with a uneven edge left where the colon dot would be, as a result. I also picked up a uncirculated 1895 YH Farthing. It does have a rather streaked toning though. I will post it later.
