Hi

I'm fairly new to UK coins and was thinking of going up to the Midland Coin Fair in June, as we haven't got any coins shops locally, so up to now I have only purchased via Ebay.

I'd appreciate some feedback from attendees as to whether it's 'beginner friendly' or not?

I am particularly interested in the period 1902 to 1946 (Florins/Half Crowns) and have a max. budget of up to perhaps £5 - £10 per coin.

Does that sound like the sort of thing you can pick up?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Ed.

Yes it is. It depends on what dates you want as some would need a 0 on the end, but coins are available in the period/price bracket indicated.

A few of us have a table, some more regularly than others.

Ed,

Welcome to the forum, I think the midland coin fair is a great place to learn, there is a real mix of dealers and a great range of coins for all budgets.

If you've not been an attender there before, then go with open eyes, and a closed wallet, at least at first. I say that just because of your inexperience, but having said that, it's one of the best fairs around, and if you see one of our forum members there with a table, like Rob or Derek, I know they will offer you a wealth of advice.

Your collecting area is pretty modern, but the early part especially Edward VII can be very pricy unless you are prepared to collect low grades (not my recommendation). However, George VI you could get at your budgeted price - say GEF up to UNC.

I would say yes , but limit yourself to searching through the rumage bins if you only want items under £10 - there is plenty to go at there

It should be a great day out.

Be aware of coin collectors stoop and don't smell of pee.

Just a note for anyone going tomorrow. We are not in the usual room, but the one to the left where they join two rooms separated by the narrow bit at the emergency exit. Me, Neil and Derek are in the far room from the entrance. Please don't spend all your money before you get to the other side. Thanks. :)

I have been rota in to work today (grrrrrrrrr) and i have two adult entry tickets for the west midland safari park (via clubcard) valid for six months ( as i cannot justify traveling 120 miles just for a coin fair to my partner , there has to be something else....
