Hi, Just joined the forum, and interested in buying silver roman coins and hammered coins wholesale to resell on ebay, more of a hobby than anything else, but of course to make a profit, i do have experience as a seller on ebay,

Thanks Robs70.

You have to fall back on experience.

There are no wholesalers just use your nous and try an auction.

If you don't know your subject you will get burnt.

Bear in mind that mid-grade Roman silver is plentiful. If you can find a dealer in them who doesn't have an eBay outlet, a big enough purchase may see you get a reasonable discount. But don't expect huge profits when you come to sell.

As Peter says, it helps to know your subject before you embark.

Perhaps rread the market trends section in the most recent few editions of Spinks Coins of England to get some idea of what types of coins appreciate more than others. But good luck, even the very best cannot promise profits in this world...

Sorry ROBS70

You are going to be in a money pit.

Get yourself a metal detector and earn £20 a week.

It is a hobby and you won't get rich.....Unless you find a stash...How many people do this.

I have found grots, nails, bits of metal.

When I first started selling on ebay the scum are out there.

Always send recorded/signed for because the scum have ripped me off.

Welcome to the forum Rob. Not wishing to be a killjoy but, as suggested, if you knew your subject you'd already understand the supply chain and have ready access to the coins.

Three scum bags ripped me off....profit gone The fourth one I called his bluff and had proof of delivery.

Be very aware.

I would much paint my balls red and sit up a tree and invite monkeys to a cherry eating contest.

Ebay, seen a fair few bulk lots of Hammered and Roman in Bulk.

Doubt you'd make much/(any) profit reselling many of the hammered lots as individuals.

depends, I got a small lot of hammered containing a SAxon cut quarter once for not that much, there will be resale value if you do your homework.

True, but that's rare. I got a cut half of Henry I for 50p in a bulk lot but unfortunately many lots nowadays are just exceptionally poor grade and common, e.g. this.

yea, there is a massive bulk lot on ebay, i saw it a couple of days ago, a good 20+ hammered, cut halfs through to decent tudor.

depends what you see, it is surprising what gets missed in bulk lots even with them in the picture.

grabbed TERTVS error halfpenny, lustrous viccies and scarcer hammered (bristol penny and that saxon were in 2 small lots) in cheap lots with them in the picture clearly shown (well the bristol wasn't), had a couple of fragments of Edward VI shillings too.
but I was refering more to roman coinage, which you can get by the bucketload in bulk. especially detector lots, just need to clean them up of course.
