I'd thought I'd kick off the 2000th topic (is there a prize Chris???) with this question:

what is (if indeed there is such a thing) the most collectable post 2000 coin, or are they all pretty uninspiring?

I will start this one off with the obvious undated 20p.

However a £15 coin until the press picked up on it to £300 and now back to £40.I reckon a £40 coin to 2050.Nice investment....not.

My 2nd choice would be the Olympic 50p's which are all fairly rare.Trouble is everyone is collecting them.

I believe the 2008 Britannia 50p is also difficult to find in change, although obviously no problem from a set. And of the Olympics 50ps there's obviously the underwater swimmer variety.

'Most collectable' is a tough one because what people collect is subjective. Rarest is probably that Olympic swimmer 50p with the lines on the face that was withdrawn, or was just the Royal Mint being sloppy. As the public aren't aware of it though, it's not generally collected like the dateless 20p was.

It was mentioned in Coin News but the press haven't picked it up.The Olympic 50p's are also being tucked away.(Even my mother keeps them)

Why back to 1672 only? If you went there, it would surely make more sense to encompass all milled coinage. There is life outside of copper.

That's probably to be expected because they appeared in the first release packaged issue and not the general issues to banks for circulation. A genuinely circulated example is probably very rare given most if not all of these will have been bought at above face value.

Hello Peter.

1) I'm still in the process of preparing the house. It has a new kitchen now, plus new windows and external doors. Some decorating also done, but still a lot to do plus other bits e.g. some plumbing in the bathroom and the lounge needs a new floor.

2) I still have my 400+ forgeries but the houses have priority at the moment.

3) Hopefully by the end of this year. The houses are draining resources, time, my last nerve.

4) I'll probably stretch back a little over time, but am keen to keep CCGB the number 1 paperback for GB coins that most people want to know about, and those are pretty much nearly always GIII and later. Adding pages increases printing costs and therefore the price of the book. We'll see.
