Or was the O in VICTORIA actually a C from VICTORIA. Both seem to have the same shape. See what you think.

Hey, Azda, I'm only looking at this picture on an i-phone, really small, but wouldn't the really strong serifs in the C be present in the O, if it really WAS the C instead of there being some other explanation? Can see where you're coming from though and, I reiterate, I haven't seen the full res images of this on the 'big screen'!

Perhaps clutching at straws here, but maybe a damaged C wss used, if it is actually a C that it. Best pic i could get though, deslers gallery pic with a little enlargement by moi.

I wonder if anyone else had posted this, would it have got more airtime.............Is it just me? I was only curious about the coin, it's not been bought, nor will it be bought....

Do you know what, slightly off topic, and I might just be having a blonde moment, but why are letters repaired with other letters anyway? It would seem the most natural thing in the whole world to slot an O punch neatly into the damaged O, give it a little tap and...hey presto!????

Off topic again, Azda, but I read in another post that your boy's back in hospital. I hope he, you, and your family are all OK? I've got a four-year old boy and can only imagine the pain of it all. I used to be a Recovery Nurse, so have witnessed the suffering of parents many times. Take it easy out there!

Ye ditto azda, I do hope he is doing OK. What's a few old coins compared to your family..

Thanks ladies and gent....Yes he's getting better, but when he goes into hospital it seems to be for a month at a time. When he was born he spent the 1st 3 months in an incubator. I just feel like i'm not spending enough time with him, trying to buy and sell and collect coins does take a lot of time away from your family plus a job to go to, so something suffers in the end.

I'd now rather just do a bit part buy/sell, its something i enjoy and maybe one day give up the day job.....Until that day arrives (and hell freezes over) lol P.s, thats my son in my avtar

Even though you spend time with your coins I have clearly picked up that you are doing it with your lad in mind.Don't sell his coins.

Everyone needs a release.

Mrs Peter and my girls have actually said they like my interest in coins. The girls because of the fiscal nature(their inheritance)and Mrs Peter because we talk.

Through my coin interest we have at least 4 nights every year away in a Hotel. We just make sure the Hotel does good food and has a pool. :)

I am allowed out on a long leash occasionally :) but the desire to catch the night ferry to the Hook of Holland has lost its appeal :o :o

I have Williams coins seperated, those will not be sold, i'll also keep trying to buy for him, but unfortunately i can't keep up with everyhing, so will try and earn a few quid with my interest in coins (which will never dissapear i might add) and i'll still be on the forum pissing everyone off with my over enthusiasm..... In short, i'm still doing what i'm doing for William, but will be obviously only trying to earn cash now to stash for his future and hopefully we and the Faru can try and buy something eventually in a nice sunny climate if he ever needs to get out of Germany, when he was in Turkey last year he never had a problem, sunny climate, sea air, came back to Germany after 3 weeks and was in hospital after 2 weeks being back.

Sounds like Turkey it is. :)

Plenty of history/coins there. You will have to brush up on your Roman.

Dave,

I echo everyone else's comments and wish you and your family all the best. As peter says it is sometimes as important to have a release, and I find a few hours dealing with coins just lets me switch off and chill.

In relation to the coin in question, you would need to see a clearer image to be certain but it just looks like die damage coincidentally resembling something else.

Finally in relation to Coinery's comment, given the sizes of the punches used, I could see it being quite easy for someone to mistake a letter for a similar shaped letter, or an alternative letter being used as a "make do" if it was at hand.

Dave,

I would also concur with what everyone else is saying on this thread. Hope your lad's out soon and is better for the time spent in hospital. You will need some distraction to take your mind off things from time to time but what that distraction is, only you can decide.
