I think the Edward I silver penny grade might be optimistic

Now you're cooking.

1887 Shilling: Look closely at the Q on the top left of the scroll on the tail side. If you can see a distinct loop, it's the common type. There are two others where the Q has a tail, rather than a loop.

If your 1958 shilling is really EF, and if it's the English variety (3 lions, not one), that's a very good coin. 1957 Scottish (one lion, not 3) in EF is also good stuff.

the 1887

is the loop inside the Q or outside

1887q.jpg

Commonest (looped Q) on the left, scarcest (long tailed Q) on the right.

There's also a short-tailed Q which is between the two in scarcity

i have common one

i got the 1936 shilling for ten pence because it was in a cupronickel box and the dealer let me have it for 10p because i found . made me very happy :D

I would reconsider getting the above "coins" they are gimmicks  and worth nothing to collectors (or anyone else)

Stick to collecting proper coin.

too late...

Your 1st mistake and I'm sure there will be plenty more.Steer clear of the type of coin you see in newspapers/on TV etc. They are gimmicks and marketing rubbish.

Stick to proper dealers or even Ebay.

Westminster Coins sent me one of the Rhodium/platinum/gold-plated pennies for free... It's quite attractive in a strange way, but worth almost exactly what I paid for it!

I have to ask though - if you didnt really want it, why did you buy it?!

Ahh ok... I got one of them too... a grandad see's London Mint Office/Westminster Coins etc adverts in the paper and insists on buying things for me! He nearly stopped when the 1818 crown that he bought me turned out to be a barely legible date rather than the aUnc picture!

Cool - waaay better than my grandad then! Best he managed (from his sock draw!) was a almost unidentifiable 1762 quarter guinea which someone had made a donut from! So much was missing from the middle, that only the width of the crown on the reverse remained!

Cash4gold

I wonder how many punters have been separated from their sovs & guinea's for a fraction of their worth? :(

Think yourself lucky. I once got a Max Bygraves vinyl record from mine and this was at the time of the meteoric rise of the Beatles and the Stones. I don't think it ever got a play, so its 'Uncirculated'. Get it!!  :D :D :D:lol:

Hi

If you google skegness coins you will find a coin shop about 9/10 miles North (coin & collectors centre).

You can always search for the Olympic 50p's in the coin arcades :) Look out for cycling, rowing and boxing...these are the rarest.

Don't forget to look in charity and antique shops.
