Gary Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 The book, The British Bronze Penny (Victoria) 1860 to 1901 from Micheal gouby, who has it and would you recommend it? Sounds interesting and I am thinking of getting a copy but would like your opinions. Thanks in advance. Gary. Quote
RLC35 Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Gary,It is the BEST reference. The way it is cateloged really makes it easy to understand and to use. I have the Specialized Edition, and use it all the time. Quote
azda Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I bought it last month, the latest edition, excellent reference for varieties, a good read to. You'll not need anything else for penny reference Quote

Old Copper Nose Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Done! Look forward to recieving it can I then tear out years 1860-1901 from the original ? Hi Gary,I'm sure you won't be disappointed with your purchase, I received my specialised edition of Gouby today and must say that I am very happy with it! It is well laid out, very easy to understand and contains a large number of clear, colour pictures which aid classification.I would highly recommend it to anyone who has a serious interest in Victorian bronze pennies. It is a great reference tool in addition to Freeman and Peck and well worth the 50 quid. Quote

azda Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 The only downside to this book for me is that the pages are a little thin, would have been better with card like paper for the pictures, but still, a quality book and will give you endless nightmares trying to collect varieties Quote
Old Copper Nose Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 So true Azda,Never thought I'd see the day, but within an hour of having the book I was busy counting border teeth and checking date widths It looks like the endless nightmares have just begun ... Quote
