Fair dos though, this guy's coming up with some interesting stuff.

So much so in fact, and with such a funky address, that someone must know who he is ?

He also has a 1902 Low tide stating its UNC, but the fingers and helmet on Britannia are worn and Britannia has a spot of Verd under her armpit. I was gonna make a bid, but won't bother now on that basis, although a great strike on the OBV

I think you've got that 100% right mate.

I wonder how many people have missed the Verd.....

Is it just me or does that look like the twopence? According to Peck, the KH6,7 halfpenny pattern obverse/reverses have legends that take up the full wdth of the rim. On that photo, the legend only takes up 2/3 of the rim, just like the twopence. And if it really IS the rare halfpenny, why hasn't the seller included a ruler in the picture to prove it? I'm suspicious. Looks like the bidders are too.

That's a very good point. I might ask him to include a pic with a ruler included.

ask, and ye shall be given

Hopefully the link should work this time.

3 centimetres - that seems about right. Strange about the legend, though Peck's illustrations are not quite fully comprehensive.

A lot, probably. You've got to zoom in to see it, especially as there is a hint of green ambience elsewhere on the coin, that causes it to be slightly camouflaged. In the hand it would be positively minute, and barely visible to the naked eye.

Fantastically well struck coin though.

So well spotted, azda B)

Not often you get anything quite as good as this on e bay, but I really am impressed by this coin, with a starting bid (quite reasonably) of a grand.

Hmmm, exceptionally rare, but with a starting bid of only £99.00 this time.

Nice coin, nevertheless.

Starting at £99 it's a bargain, but as an example you could do a lot better. As the halfpennies were never issued for circulation you should always look for one in top grade. This one isn't. The reverse looks particularly abused and the obverse verdigris spot doesn't help. P1157 isn't the commonest variety, though certainly obtainable with patience.

It obviously hasn't been kept with any degree of care, that much is clear.

Went for £1120 in the end.

Ok own up, who bought it? :-)

Way out of my price range!, intereting that there were only two bids

Probably the starting price that put people off it, starting so high would alienate a lot of potential bidders

Agreed. Although £1000 would have been a reasonable starting point, it isn't going to attract too many bidders, who would normally get on the bandwagon in the hope of netting a bargain.

Maybe he should have started at £100 ~ £0.99 would surely have been ridiculous in this case.

Always a fine balancing act between cost price, what it's worth and what you're willing to take. They normally find their own level when they are rarer coins, so he might have got away with a 0.99p start.

I predicted not much more than his start as I thought £1000-£1350 would have been a reasonable price, of course I don't know what it stood him at :)

But he could have started it at 99p but put his reserve price on it, that way he would have got many more potential bidders. Otherwise, into a coin sale like Baldwins etc
