Peckris Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 (edited) Just out of curiosity, what do you think of this, and whats the crap on the bottom of the REV?Sadly, coins like that are horribly underrated. Just because it doesn't have anything much in the way of lustre. Yet it's clearly uncirculated (i.e., in the sense of not having any detectable wear) and I'd be proud to have it in my own collection. The stain is your typical bronze stain, I believe, possibly the result of being sneezed on or something similar! A penny worth having. Edited June 11, 2010 by Peckris Quote
Rob Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 The mark could be ink as well. You encounter coins from time to time which have collector's marks inked onto the fields. You could check it carefully and see if it looks like ink and i so, then it will probably be water soluble and although the original solvent would have long disappeared, the remaining dyes adhering to the coin would be water soluble in time. £400 for a Penny ? Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Just as a side note, it went up 185 quid on the last minute Good job you had your rubber pants on then. I love it when that happens - have to say, ebay is pretty reliable IME, an item almost always fetches market value and usually in the last 10 seconds, as you say. Quote
