Leviathan Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Well Jay, I'm not too sure too many on here will be willing to part with their silver coins.. I had the impression it wasn't the done thing on here, and considering I myself deal in metals (gold, Platinum, palladium, silver etc), I didn't think it appropriate Quote
jay053 Posted May 12, 2010 Author Posted May 12, 2010 Thankyou I can see your point,, which is why I just wanted to make it clear I would not be selling them on to melt down etc! Purely to hold as a value of money! I realy dont think its the right thing to be menlting down such historical and important peices of the UK's past! Thankyou for replying and thankyou all for looking at my postJAY Quote
TomGoodheart Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 (edited) I think the problem is Jay, that there can't be many of us here who have paid scrap silver prices for our coins. So we'd probably want a price that reflects what we paid. Since I don't buy coins for what they are made from but for their historical value mine might prove a bit pricy. With a quick calculation suggesting a minimum of $120/oz (and I haven't bought anything at that price in quite a while) up to perhaps $10000/oz I doubt you'd be very interested. Those will bring the best returns IN THE LONG RUN.If you're not an investor (and you don't sound like a collector), then you're probably in the wrong forum. Quote
Peter Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 i've been getting over 20x face for pre 1920 silver of which both grandfathers took out of circulation....just scrap...my actual coin collection is not for sale Quote
