I wish I could help you with this FP, but unfortunately I've never come across them before, and as you already kow, web info is very sketchy. I'd say there probably isn't a market for them at present.

Very interesting, nonetheless, and hopefully detail can be filled in by others.

Farmer Palmer, the link you have provided is from my website. They are a very much unknown item, but I genuinely believe that the information on the site is as accurate as you will find at present. They are collectible, but not as much as you would think. They generally fetch about £3 - 15 on Ebay, but will go higher for a nice grade. They are very scarce in higher grades.

Thank you gentlemen , ill explain my interest in value.I had one of these in my collection , not quite sure when or where i bought it.I had a bit of a clear out as i intend concentrating on British Florins and Maundy 4d's.

I put the token on Ebay and sure enough just as Colin says it fetched around the tenner.Well that was fine , its probably around what i paid so i was happy with the return of my money.

A couple of days later i got messaged asking where i had got the coin.Any seasoned ebayer will tell you this is a huge warning sign , i worried im going to get negged for some obscure and unfair reason.

I replied and next message was the buyer suspected its a counterfeit.This only deepened my sense of worry as i have an unblemished record as a seller for 3 years latterly.

Again i replied and said i had no idea it might be a counterfeit , i get another message saying if its real its worth 1900 , i got another message saying the buyer reckoned its worth 90,000 ..of course im not so nieve to think its worth the fortune suggested as ebayers are no fools (mostly) and i coudldnt see a valuable coin slipping by all the dealers on the auction site.

It left me wondering , what is the actual value typically.Im guessing it isnt 90,000 Thanks again guys for putting this one to bed.

Glad to , as a side note nieve is a word you will find north of the border my friend.It doesnt quite mean the same thing.In the context used it loosely means "w@%k@r"as nieve is a term associated with ones hand.

Just to add that both Peckris & myself had severe problems with the edit function when we first joined. At the start it didn't seem to work at all. Then we were able to edit for about a minute after posting (literally a minute, tops). I then took a break between Christmas and about the end of March. On resumption of posts, I found that I could edit for some considerable time after making a post.

I always use this to check if I have made a cock of myself or not and then submit it after careful persual.

Unfortunately, I sometimes wake up in the morning and find I still have.

No, as 1949 mentioned, the upgrade to the forum at least means we can actually Edit for a good few minutes after posting. Which is so much better than old "no edit" system we experienced.

Having had a look at this thread and Colin's site as well as a few others, I have a question. Forget you are coin collectors, and then explain to me how or why this "coin" is declared as a coin and why it is then denominated as a farthing, I have seen no sign of it having the "farthing" on it in any of the pics I have seen.

The clue is in the first line on the link site "farthing sized tokens"

Usually in commerce it is easier to introduce something that is similar to the thing that it is to replace so that the end users recognise what it is or what it may be for. At the time of use not many people could read or write anyway, but they would all have had an idea of the monetary value (real or assumed) of the currency they were using.
