It's a 'wound star' - I guess the equivalent of the Purple Heart. He got shrapnel in his eye at Monte Cassino and had to be operated on in the field. (Later went to an optician in London who turned out to have been his surgeon).

It comes out very jumbled doesn't it. What is the name of the abbreviation software?

It's called TypeIt4Me and I've used it

If I can find the setting among the hundreds of others, I'll try switching it to force plain text (instead of defaulting, I think, to rich text). It may have been plain text before. That could be the issue.

I found the setting and pasting should now default to plain text.

I'm using Chromium instead of Firefox, and so far - touch wood - it seems to be working normally with my abbreviations.

Very good to hear. I couldn't find any reports of issues with TypeIt4Me in conjunction with the forum, but that another browser seems better is no surprise, browsers are so complicated these days.
