Coin#addict Posted May 31 Posted May 31 I found this farthing in amongst my coppers. I think it may be a forgery but cannot find any information on them. It weighs 6.03 grams and doesn't have a reeded edge. 2 Quote
Paddy Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Weight is within range (4.7 to 6.3g approx) and you would not expect a reeded edge on a farthing of that date. Apart from a lot of corrosion, I can't see much wrong with that one. Quote
Martinminerva Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Perfectly genuine - just a classic example of an actually reasonable out-of-the-ground detector find. The edge is not reeded; you're just seeing the border teeth and maybe wanting to extrapolate! Quote
Rob Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Yep. Portraits, Britannia, letters and numerals look normal. Just a typical corroded detector find. Quote
Coin#addict Posted May 31 Author Posted May 31 Thanks guys, your input is very much appreciated Quote
oldcopper Posted June 2 Posted June 2 (edited) Probably be worth more if it was a forgery. I have never come across any W&M copper forgeries. Come to think of it I haven't seen any Wm III copper ones either (though I have got one in lead from what looks like genuine dies). There were so many made at that time (£700 tons of copper coin made 1694-1701) that there was not the shortage of the mid- to late-18th century that triggered that huge production of copper forgeries.
