secret santa Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 They're getting better at this. It's much better than the Victorian bronze pennies. 1 Quote
secret santa Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 That reverse is scarily good - I had to count the teeth to make sure but the fake has 180 teeth whereas the genuine article has 187. 1 Quote

VickySilver Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 I agree, very impressive. Now if they could only pull of a '19H, I might be a buyer at Ali Baba prices! Oops, shouldn't have let that out....I am always unhappy with the 19H's... The obverse looks almost of the '26ME quality & treatment of hair detail.... Quote
Peckris 2 Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 I'd run a mile if I saw that. Britannia fully struck up? Teeth prooflike? Sharp portrait? It screams 'fake' to me. 2 Quote

Yes, too good to be true, and i always believe i won't be that lucky to buy a bargain piece like that. Quote
secret santa Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 Yes, the teeth are too long, her right thumb is too short, the left hand waves cover the teeth plus a few other minor details but generally the best attempt at a bronze penny that I've seen to date. 3 Quote
VickySilver Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 Wow, Richard, exceptional coin there for the comparo - can we see a quick shot of the obverse? Quote

You have a beautiful example there Richard - one of the best I've seen, superbly struck up compared with the average example. HOWEVER... even at a glance I can see the differences on the reverse. From the eyebrow height of the helmet and head, down the neck, to below the breast area, and the drapery adjacent to the shield - it's all more vague and less precise, which is inevitable when you consider the deep cut portrait on the obverse. Which is why I sigh admiringly at your example, which is so obviously genuine, but would run a mile from the other which is just too precisely modelled to be anything but fake. 1 Quote
secret santa Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 Her prehensile big toe is also rather creepy. 1 3 Quote

oldcopper Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 (edited) Sometimes the head/face can be quite sharp on the real ones. Here's one I used to own ex one of the CC collections, I think the Workman one. Edited January 23, 2024 by oldcopper 4 1 Quote
SilverAge3 Posted January 29, 2024 Author Posted January 29, 2024 (edited) Wow nice. Those Workman collection pieces were amazing. Even with that ghosting, the rev has excellent detail. Edited January 29, 2024 by SilverAge3 Quote
VickySilver Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 Yes, although the tricky side is the obverse. Don't get me started on the "H"s! 1 Quote
