Tiny Coin Found - possibly Celtic?

Recommended Posts

Dear Forum,

We found this little coin which appears to be a little Celtic coin. Please could we have some more information on it, as it is not something I've seen before or have much expertise with.

Thank you in advance.

Could we see the other side please? Also, can you crop the picture so we can see it better?

First thought is that the letters look to be in the Greek alphabet.

The dolphin and the capital Omicron and Lambda (ΟΛ) are all associated with the Greek colony of Olbia, on the Black Sea coast (modern day Ukraine, I think), but do not have any reference books on Greek coins so can't tell you any more than that, but sure someone with more knowledge of ancient coins and denominations could.

As copper123 says though, it might well not be genuine - lots of copies exist of "ancient" coins, both very modern and somewhat older.

I see this example on Numista: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces378246.html

As noted there, extremely rare and should be gold. As such, quite a high chance of being a replica or fake. Picture of the other side is what we need first along with some idea of how it was discovered. If it proves to be genuine, you might have quite a valuable piece there!
