GateGateGo Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 So, postie done brung me this lil' parcel of lovliness, Doesn't quite qualify for my 'chump change' thread, but didn't break the bank, either. I THINK I'm better understanding what constitutes a wise buy & being more selective - what say you? First up: 1930 George V Half Crown. Quote
Stuntman Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Bit of a halfcrown theme going on there! How much was the 1930, dare I ask? The 1917 holds the most eye appeal for me. Are you intending to collect a date run then? Quote
GateGateGo Posted January 13, 2016 Author Posted January 13, 2016 It's certainly looking like it - I've a 1915 & 1918 on the way, too (also, the 1916 & 1938 from yesterday in the 'chump change' thread. They all look much better in hand, very bright, lustrous & vibrant. I really do need to get my light source shit together to do them justice. These recent shots are all day - lit only, taken with a DSLR at max res but re - sized to fit the image size limit here. The 1930? £43 Quote
Stuntman Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Not bad I reckon. I have a 1915, a 1930 and a 1945 but no others of the period you're currently collecting. Mine were all from dealers. 1 Quote
Nordle11 Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 (edited) Building up quite a nice collection Frank! Keep 'em coming, I'm sure there's plenty of people who are breathing a sigh of relief that they're not pennies Edited January 13, 2016 by Nordle11 1 Quote
GateGateGo Posted January 13, 2016 Author Posted January 13, 2016 Getting there, Matt, getting there. I must admit, I'm quite pleased with all of them but particularly the '30 - that was quite the bargain, I reckon. Yeah, kinda got the vibe 'bout the pennies Just to give a better idea of overall condition, I just took these using Nons 'vertical flash' method on the '24 1 Quote
Nordle11 Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I quite like that second shot over the first one! 1 Quote
GateGateGo Posted January 14, 2016 Author Posted January 14, 2016 Yeah, me too Matt. I shot quite a few this way after seeing how it came out - i'll stick 'em up on Flikr later. Quote
Gary1000 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Nice coins, the 1930 does worry me though. It looks like its been left in a glass of coke overnight. Quote
GateGateGo Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 Hi Gary, Hmm - you mean the texturing / micro pitting to the fields? I'd assumed it to have been cleaned at some point but hadn't given it too much thought since taking those original shots. What do you make of these taken just now? Quote

Paulus Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 I think the 13, 17 and 24 also looked dipped, to one extent or another ... but it could just be the photography ... Quote

The 30 has been stripped of all toning leaving it looking like a stone which is what happens when it's left far too long in silver dip, I don't think this one has anything to do with photography unfortunately Quote
