Stuntman Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Today I've been looking at a dealer site that I hadn't come across before, and I would welcome the forum's collective opinion as to the grade of these three, and whether the prices seem reasonable. I'm not entirely sure that they are actually currently available for sale. I've emailed the seller regarding the first one as it's a coin that's definitely on my wants list!1693 W&M shilling - up at £180http://www.coinsandtokens.com/excel/england-coins/silver/silver-coin-pics/ES0027.jpg1861 Victoria shilling - up at £130http://www.coinsandtokens.com/excel/england-coins/silver/silver-coin-pics/ES0005.jpg1847 Gothic crown - up at £1195, seems good value if true?http://www.coinsandtokens.com/excel/england-coins/silver/silver-coin-pics/ES0019.jpgThanks in advance! SWANNY Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 That Gothic Crown looks very clean , shame there is not a higher detail picture (I have blown it up, but it loses detail) Quote
Paulus Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 The Gothic crown is sold according to his site. His pictures are truly awful, you would have to get better pics or see the coins in hand, but judging only by the pics for the other 2 coins his grading descriptions are """optimistic""" - the 1861 he describes as "Good Extremely Fine - Uncirculated Choice" Quote
Stuntman Posted November 16, 2015 Author Posted November 16, 2015 Cheers Gents.Paulus, it looks like the seller still has that Gothic crown for sale, although he does appear to have sold another one that he had graded as EF for £1100 (ES0046 on his site). Quote
SWANNY Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 No , there are two Gothic Crown's, and the one above is for sale ES0019 Crown Victoria, 1847, Gothic Proof, Extremely Fine £1,195.00 Quote

azda Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 An EF gothic for £1200? If it looks EF I'd be buying it then sending it straight to CGS, it's too good to be true Quote
Paulus Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 (edited) looks NEF to me, wear on hair and elsewhere on obv Edited November 16, 2015 by Paulus Quote
VickySilver Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Hmm, I'll vote EF although there likely are hairlines, etc. that at least I can not see from photos. That still seems like a good price, however. Quote
damian1986 Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Well here's a gVF that was formerly used as a tea coaster and hammered at £1200 - http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&auc=150&searchlot=1918&searchtype=2Would say it's a couple of grades better than that even though the photos are a bit rubbish. Thing is why would he underprice a coin that is desirable (i.e. probably quite easy to shift) if it's as described? Quote
VickySilver Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Caveat emptor! I agree, appears too good to be true... Quote
SWANNY Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I emailed a day ago asking for better pictures , no reply yet I may phone the number to see if this site is actually live...Has a few nice coins that I would like to own. Quote
TomGoodheart Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Anthony Halse is a BNTA member and Chairman of South Wales and Monmouthshire Numismatic Society.I don't know any reason the site shouldn't be live. Hopefully you'll get a reply soon. Quote
Stuntman Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 He hasn't replied to me yet either. Quote
