I think many of these are unknown. Certainly I have never read or or heard of any Lauer showing Isabelas portrait as she abdicated in 1868 and her son Alfonso as a child only became king in 1874 this suggests then that this set was planned at the very least during her reign. Rogers makes no reference to her in his description of the Spanish set . I think rare issues that happen to fall around the time of some turmoil or other might give us quite a bit of detail to the history of Lauer manufacture and may also allow us to suggest that the Victorian young head and Gothics may also have been made in the 1860's rather than 1880's

yes I agree I suppose the definition of a toy is a very loose one LOL but at christmas we get to play so once the tree is up and the heating on I will start listing some of the others. I will follow your lead and do some of the Bavarien and Balmberger coins I think I have a few additions . There is some interesting information in Rogers which I can quote from

now that I can compare the two they are only similar in a very superficial way. the legend on the reverse is very different. if that is the case unless it was made as a pendent or a fob of some kind I cannot find a match. I will continue to look through the Fitzwilliam Collection I would think it is supposed to be a crown or half crown ,

the closest to the one you show is Rogers #31 The Half Sovereign Jack but this one whilst the design is exactly the same is in Brass and has no date so it might be a new one, The Jack so far has only been found with a hole drilled 19mm with a plain edge you might want to look at the collection in the Fitzwilliam to compare looks the same to me

yet there are many fakes that get much better prices than the real thing. Contemporary Georgian counterfeits coppers in the US market for example the uglier the fake the higher the price. I suppose it is a big part of their history so they favour them .... I love them myself and have far too many than any man needs LOL

yes very true fashions come and go

a bargain well done , good value for money so you have made a potential profit of about £15 they seem to be selling for about that these days.

I am not so sure that rarity has a lot to do with "solely or souly with supply and demand " ..... it is lot to do with marketing and fashion ..hence why uncommon features are of little interest to many. yet perhaps they possess a capacity to unlock some knowledge or history no one thought to look for or seek. I am sure Picasso was a cheap buy at some point or a Monet

give your daughter money for her art then it will be unique and valuable to her

I am a magpie my life has been spent collecting shiny things. At the age of 8 I was going into mines and quarries collecting minerals, then another 15 years collecting fossils, then antiquities....then lastly coins ( I also had a wicked old grandfather who gave all his coins to a cousin) so it's a love hate relationship. Then when I had cancer the last time they helped me find something to do which has in turn turned into a collection to sell when I die for the charity. Selling them has raised enough so far to keep things going. I enjoy finding little things to amuse me. I have always loathed money so there is an irony in collecting it for a purpose beyond my lifetime .

that's interesting

I'm asking because I am interested in the motivations of collectors: What is the motivation behind owning a coin where only 6 exist? Of course I understand from an investment point of view but what could be done with it other than placing it in a vault. Perhaps you would visit it once a week, or have it over for dinner .....once a year for a party but then I assume you would have to have security .....I know the feeling of finding circulation coins where the rarity of the coin is related to its age and its survival but then partly that is the thrill of the hunt, the discovery the spotting ...I'm intrigued

well in a discussion the idea it to do the subject to death , or else why would it have been raised in the first place. I am more than happy to use time to write 1000's of words if they progress a debate . I was taught the need to advance my side of a debate and bring in facts that can be substantiated hence why I would never attempt to quantify the level of support that such cases really have. I would need to see a representative poll of all demographics age and all other factors powered by a large enough population to believe that there is some conspiracy towards the homeowners or a contra conspiracy that favoured the criminal. Apologies if I write a lot this is a FORUM taking place in the FORA one corner are standing chatting using words. Perhaps I should not take the word FORUM too literally if that is your preference. I dont assume to know your circle no more than you know mine so I shall not attempt to make this personal or to throw insults . That would nullify the whole purpose of the discussion for me . -

sadly in as much as it was apparently an oversight in the legal process that spousal immunity does not make her as liable as her husband. would have been if he had caused an accident when travelling too and fro from the place of work at which their immunity was requested . The home office has since reviewed the rules and changed them so that a spouse is equally liable. It is SAD that some idiot in whitehall got it wrong. If it had not she would have had to take a longer sentence. Or at least this is my understanding. There seem to be some strange forces behind her suggestions that she may have been working for the CIA but it is unclear. We have to remember that she was allowed to remain in the US and returned during Trumps time in "office" regretfully he does not own the right to call himself a president. Yes very cowardly
