  1. Thanks for all the feedback. I have told the seller I will pass on it. I know I keep saying thanks but all of this input is really helping me and I appreciate it.
  2. I use Rotographic in the main as its on my phone but you know the score... buyers want Rotographic prices and sellers use Spink...
  3. Are they both not shillings though Peter? The one I was offered was a sixpence.
  4. Thanks Peter.... I am having to fight the urge to buy (the nicest I can afford at the time) stuff just to build a collection. I really do need to focus on on something but every time I think 'yes thats what I want to focus on' something else grabs my attention. I am sure I will calm down eventually... wont I?!?
  5. Cheers Paulus, I said I was going to check with you guys before I decided what to do.
  6. Hi Paulus, it's a sixpence with a mintage of 7,725,475. I think the 1917 shilling was 22,202,608. Does that impact on your opinion at all?
  7. I picked it up for £42 delivered which doesnt seem too bad against the SPINK pricing for EF.... I have also been offered the following: I know that 1917 is a lower mintage than other dates around it. I can see the rim knock at 5pm on the Obverse, that aside it looks a clean coin to me. Can I have others opinions please? I think Spink have this at £160 unc and Rotographic at £75. What do you feel would be a fair price? The dealer has asked for £80. Thanks Non
  8. I just had a 1844 Half penny land on my desk, I believe it is EF or at the worst gVF. These are the sellers pics not mine.
  9. Yeah Mick has been great with all my orders so far
  10. It is Paulus but I know the seller via facebook, they are both off him
  11. Forgot to add... hopefully the newest one is a higher grade not just in my eyes?
  12. So I decided to try and see if I could get a better 1887 Shilling that I already had. This was my original shilling: This is my 'upgrade'
  13. Well I will hold fire on any more purchases until I go to the next fair but I still have other pics of 'my crap' to put up over the coming days
  14. Yes I have been the last 2 months, It is where the Sov above was from. I will look for Rob next month for sure!
  15. Birmingham, I went to Bridgnorth today and stumbled upon the aforementioned shop.
  16. Thanks the the advice gentlemen. I feel my biggest problem at the moment is now know exactly what I want to focus in on so I am buying a bit of this and a bit of that. Everytime I think 'right I will focus in on XYZ' something else comes a long that I like the look of. I spent a good hour or so with one of the few shops I have found within an hour of me who actually has a few trays of coins to go through. He had some very nice high grade coins but again I did not feel confident enough to jump in. To be honest I would have felt more comfortable if he had had a few sovereigns due to the BV factor and minimising any loses. I really need to decide on an area and try to learn as much as I can, with Sovs in mind I have bought Marsh and I am slowly reading my way through it. Believe it not advice given here is rubbing off on me and I have passed over a few relativly nice coins in my price range due to rim knocks etc or knowing that for a bit more I can go a grade up.
  17. Again lower-grade, but everyone's got to have a Young Head Victoria Sov. in their collection. Yeah, for the price that was paid I figured worst case I have the bullion value at todays spot price and I am only a few ££ down.
  18. I would love to buy top quality stuff but alas my pockets are not that deep. On the more exspensive stuff I buying the best I can afford. As you all know a differnce in grade upwards can make a huge difference. I figured I could slowly build up a collection, decide what I really want to focus on and then start upgrading/trading what I have to get what I want.
  19. A birthday present..... sort of...
  20. I think I paid about £4 for this:
  21. So, as you all know from the repeated question threads I am only just getitng into this so I am bound to make some major cock ups along the way but I thought I would share the odd bits and pieces I pick up as I go along. I would welcome any comments regarding grades etc The more you guys comment the more I learn. I plan to add pics as and when I get the coins. Thanks Non
  22. Azda did you get your coin back yet? What did they grade it as?
  23. Thank you for the fast replies. I was worried that it had been polished. Also is that sort of rainbow toning gnerally frowned upon?
  24. Hi all, could have some opinions on the following please before I take the plunge? 1820 Half Crown I believe it to be EF but wanted a second opinion. Also do you feel the toning is natural? Is there anything about this that concerns you? Does it look polished etc? Thanks Non
  25. Thank you both! All being well I will get chance to post some pics tonight.
