  1. I'm not well versed on silver or even this era but as it's nearly a third of the weight lighter than it should be and because of it's orientation I reckon you might want to have a chat with the seller.
  2. If it helps, this website says that these should have a medallic orientation; http://www.silveragecoins.com/en/details.php?item=4349
  3. Here you go guy; Link #BeatyoutoitPaulus
  4. Love the blue toning on that Spanker of a coin
  5. That's a brilliant idea to have it 'rolled out' like that. It's like a reverse panoramic of the edge haha
  6. I always enjoy looking at brg5658's photos of his conders.. They always look great, especially with the section at the bottom. (example attached) The daylight here is too bright for coin pictures, it almost dampens the lustre, so I prefer the artificial light. Normally the sunlight is the best though, or a combination of the two. Nice, big, squared off pictures like your first, Paulus, are great. When I'm buying a coin, that's the sort of thing I want to see..
  7. So do the cabinets themselves!
  8. It also looks like it's both a toothed and beaded border on the reverse
  9. Could it be people in the know overbidding to stop it being sold? Like you say, it's obviously a copy... And if I know that then someone spending 200 quid on it surely does?
  10. WOW..very, very nice coin that is. Well done on the hard work it took to get it!
  11. As newish member to this coin collecting lark (compared to you codgers ) I found that going to places like Midland is a little over whelming, especially the first time round. The most coins I've seen in one room, and because it's all packed in it's very hustle and bustle and hard to keep track of where you've been and what you've seen. Many times I've found myself looking at the same coin I'd previously dismissed, purely because I thought it was a different coin! Having said that, I'm not one to shy away so I did find people on here who I knew would be there beforehand then went round to have a chat. Also echoing what Rob has said above, speak to the dealers because not only are they going to know better than you what they've got, but they'll have knowledge you don't and can help in a lot of ways. Watch out for Rob though, he knows more than he lets on haha
  12. I meant the relevance/historical value of the counterstamp, not my particular example. But you knew that Haha
  13. Welcome Nonmortuus! You'll enjoy it here, plenty to read and tons of advice.
  14. Completionists probably wouldn't touch anything with a counterstamp on it.. Counterstampists might, like you say, but probably not. The stamp just looks like someone messing around as opposed to something like "VOTES FOR WOMEN".
  15. Small rim nicks don't bother me, but I know some people who cannot stand them! Entirely your preference, although as Rob says the value will be affected.
  16. It's good that there are some GB coins over in Germany, there's f*** all here in Spain. They're Euro crazy here, that and bottle caps.. Do you find many over there or is it rare occurance?
  17. Thanks P, do you think it's visible with just a loupe or would I need to find a microscope? I'd need to get one anyway to find out about this 1861 "halp" penny I have that I think is a P over F, but has an unknown die pairing for this error! Impossible with the loupe..
  18. Can I ask what the difference between an open and closed 9 on the 1907 is? I have no literature to hand. By the way, nice website Paulus! It's nice to be able to scroll through other's collections and take a peek
  19. It really is good for what you get for free. I found best practice was to spend a while playing with the layouts and themes and familiarising yourself with the functionality (it is sometimes difficult to find specific things) and do a quick Google search whenever you run into trouble. The hardest thing for me was trying to remove the b****y comments section from my main screen. Google sorted that for me though.
  20. I'm not even half-way to retirement age, let alone a pension! It's an ol' boys game this coin collecting haha (no offence of course!) Moneysavingexpert is hands down the best site for all things money related. Saves you a lot of money if you know where to look..
  21. Nope, they only charge you if you want the premium stuff and they there's a small charge if you want to exlude the word 'wordpress' from the URL. Some additional themes and extras might cost but there's more tan enough free stuff on there to find something half-decent. It also comes with 3gb of free space, and with all of the pictures I've uploaded I think it's only taken up about 250mb so far.
  22. It also has a few nifty side features just to breakdown what's going on by day, month and other views. For example, I can see that your visit to the site yesterday (I'm guessing it was you in Germany ) and a couple of people from the UK as well. It also shows you what other people have viewed, how many times, most visited pages etc etc. Not essential, but quite handy.
  23. Yeah I believe so. iPhone works well enough for me, a slight zoom on the actual phone and then upload straight into Wordpress. You get a choice of small, médium and large when you upload, I go for médium and there's still the option to open an image in it's own tab, in full size, once it's posted to the site. For instance, here's a capture of a re-cut 9 just zooming in on one image from my site.. It works well enough for my purposes!
  24. Thanks PWA! Still a long way to go.. haha And sorry Dave, I meant that I'm not fond of the layout of Omnicoin, which is basic, in comparison. As opposed to the basic functionalities of both sites being different. As Jac says, the quality of the pictures is better, and it feels a little more personal as you can change the format as you like and display your collection however it suits you. I imgane you get more visitors on Omnicoin because of the community, but I put mine up only for ease of access for myself to be able to view them quickly, from anywhere.
